For lane Thomas and Hunter Harvey, yes. It would cost Cappe or something else adding years and years of control.

And to beat that deal they got, Fulton or Watson or Berry or Edwards or Cappe is the headliner. I can buy not doing that for a rental. I would say that’s expensive. Nationals did alright here, got a second better player than the Benintendi deal which is similar. Makes sense all around

No one disagrees with you here just so you know. Not the victory lap you want it to be. That’s two FV40+ guys or so, completely expected for just him. Throw in Harvey or Thomas, and that’s what the bigger deal was.

Also pretty stupid the Marlins couldn’t figure out how to match or better that. Maybe the the intra-division angle comes into play.

Candelario, the 76th best overall position player in MLB since the start of 2021 making $2.5m the rest of the season so any contender can navigate the luxury tax around him making him more valuable to not implicate tax penalities for a real franchise, is definitely going to be worth a bunch of nothings below Groshans in value (9th on MLB). Throw-ins for everyone because only Marlins guys have value. My mistake.

I agree, they should have added Thomas or Harvey or something to make it worthwhile for better guys.

However we can pause any criticism till we see what they do as Cards, White Sox, maybe Padres, Rockies, and others have good pieces too. This is only annoying in a vacuum as they may just surprise.

it's not, you said literally days ago they would have to give up cappe who fangraphs has as 50 FV, somehow as a result of the giolito trade. But sure, you have totally been talking for months about just how cheap candelario would be by himself. that's totally something that happened. They just got him for 2 guys that fangraphs has as the 19th and 22nd best prospects in the cubs system. You totally didnt tout how valuable he was for months and how his low salary would have luxury tax concerned teams falling over themselves to out bid each other.
