it's not, you said literally days ago they would have to give up cappe who fangraphs has as 50 FV, somehow as a result of the giolito trade. But sure, you have totally been talking for months about just how cheap candelario would be by himself. that's totally something that happened. They just got him for 2 guys that fangraphs has as the 19th and 22nd best prospects in the cubs system. You totally didnt tout how valuable he was for months and how his low salary would have luxury tax concerned teams falling over themselves to out bid each other.

That all happened. 8 teams wanted him by reports. Eight. And as discussed system rank is irrelevant as player quality is what matters. The rank of each system can be very misleading. Cubs have a very deep system where those guys might be 8-13
easy for Marlins.

And is Cappe a FV50? We want him to be. FG hasn’t demoted him but it’s not exactly like he’s killing it - which you know. MLB did drop him out of their top 100. Hard to say where other teams would value, but if he is a 45 which is likely the case due to how bad he is doing (just like how you positioned with Salas which you ended up being right on I might add), that’s the kind of return that might beat the Cubs guys.

And the last thing you’re forgetting is the if you trade big for Candelario you need to immediately resign him for 2/3 years to make it worth it. So that also gets figured into the equation to impact the surplus value, presuming he’d be open to a reasonable deal.

I hope you are right and it’s going to take more than that. At least Cappe/Watson as a third guy, probably Mesa Jr, and eating Grandal. With a throw in.

Yes it will absolutely take more than that. But I’d use Anderson’s deal as well to weigh down the package. And I’d be fine taking that risk. He has a good enough track record that id take the risk he figures it out. The alternative is wendle who I just can’t watch be thoroughly mediocre anymore. That’s a super high reward deal, grandal is a Miami guy on an expiring contract, and Robert is a star and under control for years and Anderson has a team option for next year that would probably be their best ss option anyway. Fuck it, just go for it

Robert is so good you do anything. It’s trading for Yelich.

I would be thoroughly impressed. I would just quib here, Robert is so amazing it’s kind of impossible to weigh him down with anyone. Absent a Garcia level dump, none of that is moving a needle if I’m CHW and I’m asking for exactly what I want. Sanchez, Eder, and Meyer/Cappe/Watson/Berry is a floor threesome here for sure. Plus more.
