  • Holy shit the Orioles had 5 hits today

    • The Padres are an extremely bad team. At the top of the trash heap with the Yankees, Mets and Angels

      • I just don’t see how this team stays competitive with their current SS and C situations unless Jazz come back and stays healthy, and Sandy turns back into Sandy.

Can someone name 3 substantial moves in the last 4 weeks made by one of the other 29 teams?
I don't think this is fair (but the best there is is Chapman and E. Escobar who did have back to back 2+ WAR years so there is some hope there). Even if there was a premium to be paid 4 weeks ago, I'd say it would be worth it for this team to get another month out of a player. That being said, they had a great W/L record during that time and it didn't bite them so good for them for rolling the dice. But this became real apparent last 7-14 days they should get someone, especially a pitcher with Rogers getting reinjured, Cueto getting bombed, and Eury needing the pause. And that ignores Jazz reinjured himself.

It takes two to tango, but with so many teams contending, once you get some guys, you establish the price for everyone else, plus lower inventory so everyone else theoretically gets more expensive as there is scarcity. Given where this team was - an over achieving team beating up on a beneficial schedule with amazing 1 run luck - you'd think they'd have more desperation to do something. But they don't. This says to me they don't believe in the team and/or they are cheap. And TBH they may not be wrong on the team as they aren't going to win the world series even with additions, but this goes back to what we all agree - build the culture as that is valuable, do anything for the fans, and you never know.

I'm expecting nothing significant at this point besides an innings eater and maybe a platoon catcher (and then they'll option Fortes to AAA - calling that now) they get for outside top 15-20 prospects, as Dane looks like he belongs and Edwards clearly is offensively ready and has to be coming soon. Stallings and Segura have both picked it up last 6-8 weeks and that's the roster of 13 bats adding Fortes, Arraez, Cooper, Wendle, Berti, DLC, Sanchez, and Soler, with Yuli keeping the seat warm for Jazz and obviously Dane or Edwards will be in AAA because Garcia will have to eat once he is back. It's a nice team, better than expected which is great, but the problem is they'll gaslight us saying hey we won 84 games, that's a 15 game improvement when the real analysis is, why the F isn't Swanson/Correa/Nimmo/etc. on this team and why the F isn't there another major trade for a bat. It just pisses me off, but maybe I'll be surprised.

          • No way Dane Myers is going anywhere other than the top of the Marlins batting order.

.500 BABIP in 33 PA hitting .406/.424/.563, however his expected slash is .368/.386/.460 though so that's not all doom and gloom and a .200 average drop coming based on what we've seen. He's hitting the ball hard and he's very fast (90th sprint speed) which is awesome. I do like he is only whiffing 21% even in the SSS. We need a lot more PA here. A lot. But he might be a good player even if he ends up hitting .250-.260 with the pop and speed. Lets not get ahead of ourselves, but I do think he should be batting 6h/7th at minimum. His development into even a role player would be tremendous let alone more. Is Dane Myers the big offensive addition to contend is the real question?

                Not enough on his own.

                • FG trade value series is out

Honorable mentions - Arraez (close to FA), Jazz (banged up) - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-tra...able-mentions/

No Marlins 41-50, but Nootbar and Walker both are and have been referenced if in fact, the Marlins would go insane with a Cardinals trade. Carlson also got an honorable mention.

This seems to me like Sandy, Eury, and Luzardo are going to show up in the next 20 or so and that's it. Sounds about right. Five guys effectively top 100 isn't bad at all though.

                  • Morales also signed way over-slot, so he must have been telegraphing that to teams explaining his draft drop. He could have gone back to school, etc. May explain why they passed on him there with 2nd round pick.

                    • Observation watching the 2nd half that I didn’t think I’d say before the season.

This team really misses Andrew Nardi.

And of course, Dylan Floro getting hit in the 6th inning. Our right-handed relievers kind of stink. Wish we could trade Floro like we did Yimi Garcia for another DLC or a useful player.

                        • Floro needs to go. He’s been terrible for months. We need like 3 more bullpen arms. We don’t have a single major league quality righty coming out of the pen
