I'd prefer Edwards, but am expecting Hampson. Assuming they're just gonna roll with a DLC - Sanchez - Soler outfield with Hampson getting a couple spot starts a week + defensive replacement.

Jazz for his career strikes out 30% of the time and struggles to get on base. He can't hit LHP and while he had some promise in CF he has struggled defensively. Yea he can turn on one and hit it 450 ft but it's just as if not more likely that he gets a golden Sombrero.

Jazz is a flashy 6th or 7th hole hitter. He is a nice piece to have on a team giving you power in the bottom half of your lineup and is very marketable.

But he shouldn't be the best player on your team.
Jazz has played like a 3.5+ WAR player when healthy per 600 PA. He is also very good defensively at two up the middle positions. He is certainly not those 3 you mentioned, but he is a very good cornerstone building block player when healthy. He's easily a top 3-4 position player on a contending team as a floor. He should not be the main guy, but he is very very good. It's only health holding him back. He is Ozzie Albies when healthy. This is a great player and a bit more than a flashy 6/7 guy.

BTW, Gallen is over a 4+ guy in 180 IP. You take him because of the health of course, but health is the only reason that trade doesn't look great. This was a good move, but who knew he would be this hurt always.

3 horrific defenders and then a OF defensive replacement who is an infielder. That would be brilliant.

I know some teams play well against particular teams an/d or if you're always beating a bad team........the last few years...ok I guess since we haven't been that good of a team, but this year when we're actually doing well....to be 1-9 with -54 seems ridiculous.
I know you are referring to the Braves here, but this team overall needs 3 large upgrades offensively to get competitive (not even better) with them so it does beg the question what are they doing? I don't know how many times I/we all have to mention this because it is so obvious at this stage large changes are needed. They see first hand how far behind they are getting annihilated by the Braves, and their recent wins are random occurrence games when they get no hit for 7, the opposing SP is hurt and they just blast deep reserves, and get out hit 11-6, and the response is.... Dane Myers on the bench? It boggles the mind the lack of urgency despite generally pretty poor results besides the Wainwright injury blowout. Not sure who to blame of Bruce and Kim, so it has to be both until moves are made. There should be budget to make moves at this stage which should help move prospects or arms. I'm with Nick - don't let Goldschmidt leave Miami and save the flight points for him Bruce.

Hopefully the silver lining in Jazz and Davis getting hurt is a wake up call they are in fact razor-thin as Stallings, Gurriel, and take your pick of any two of Garcia, Myers, Edwards, Amaya, A. Allen, and Hampson, are not players for legitimate contending teams and getting them anywhere. And that's ignoring Segura isn't exactly useful so far and it's not like Fortes, DLC, and Cooper (besides last few weeks) are killing it. It is going to rapidly cost them games with the upcoming schedule so something needs to be done ASAP. Absent the covid playoff push (if even as that was a weird year), the upcoming Phillies series might be their most important series in a decade (or more) with their prime WC contender. And nothing. Very frustrating. Maybe I am wrong and Allen comes in and hits RHP and who cares about opposing SB numbers, Myers is in fact a late blooming revelation and hits a platoon split somewhere, Edwards slap hits like a poor man's Berti, and Garcia reverts to 2021 (or Yuli defies all analytics and doesn't regress), but this is just a horrible bet IMO. I do like the idea of keeping all the prospects for 2024, but my god not helping a team with the 4th most wins in baseball, even if they are over achieving with the 1 run/extra games, leading up to the ASB would be really up there in the bad things this organization has done for the fans. Time to win some games Bruce. Don't let Goldschmidt leave.

          • 3 large bats to be competitive as if we aren’t 13 over and 22 or whatever it is over against all teams other than the historically great braves lineup. They obviously need offensive help, but this whole attitude that this is completely smoke and mirrors is just nonsense. This is a good team as it is, but they need a few more pieces to make a push to not just make the playoffs but to be competitive

Sure don't agree with you that X Edwards is not a player for a contending team. I'm sure you think Arraez is legit and Edwards is all about that. Edwards has mammoth AAA numbers and was cool and calm in hitting .381 during his 23 AB cup of coffee with the Marlins. He rarely ever whiffs and draws a few walks. Unlike Arraez, he's an exceptionally speedy runner. As I"ve offered up before, the Marlins will be more fun to watch with both Myers and Edwards on the field. Far as catcher goes, we have one at JAX that can both homer and whiff with the best. If Austin can hit a couple homers a week, I don't care if he whiffs the rest of the time.

Edwards is having a very nice year in AAA (not quite mammoth though), and he looked like he belongs in the call up (.471 BABIP in those AB), but expecting a contending team to rely on someone like this for major PA in a contending stretch is too much too ask for in my opinion. I will gladly be wrong here if he comes up and is immediately Berti or Wendle level producer. That would be quite the story for a green rookie. I feel if they thought that would happen, he'd already be up. Also, I was first on Allen preseason I might add that I loved that depth signing and it was a smart bet for a guy that hits right handers. But this is another, asking a guy who has always rocked AA/AAA at now 29 years old who has never found MLB success to come up and be a missing piece for a contender is a lot to ask for. Compared to Stallings, why not try don't get me wrong there, but occam's razor seems like the answer to me - don't be cute about this and they need at least three viable veteran hitters ASAP. Especially with Jazz out and can't be counted on when he comes back.

This season has been relatively amazing so far with some magic, but it doesn't mean the bottom line doesn't need major improvements. I'll happily eat all the crow if Allen, Edwards, Myers/Garcia, and any of Garcia/Yuli/Amaya/Davis/Hampson/Burdick/Groshans are the answers this team needs. Kim is GM of the year if those guys turn into producers as they need 12-15 starts a week out of those roster spots easy as a floor. But we saw what happened with the Braves and we don't need to overthink it or be an irrational homer just thinking one run luck and situational variances are things to bet on. They need many better bats. It's just that simple. Occam's razor.

                      • Myers starting in CF tonight. Based on Skip's comments last night, he seemed to indicate that we'd see a lot of Myers in CF with Davis out. If it were up to me it'd be Myers at 3B, Edwards in CF, but we know how the Marlins are about letting the little money they do spend sit on the bench.

I'd be fine with Edwards at 2B and Arraez at 1st. Myers in CF or at 3B.

I’m ok with a split of myers and Edwards for the time being in center until jazz comes back or we make a trade. Hampson being up here is absurd. Edwards has nothing more he could possibly do in aaa

                              • Idk how much power they have over changing game times for the rest of the year, but they are really doing themselves a disservice by continuing to start games at 640 instead of 710, at least on weekdays. They made the change because of the long games, they don’t need that anymore. We have some of the worst traffic in America, give people who work an extra 30 minutes to get to the game
