I don't disagree, but there is literally no one else out there today. And probably thereafter.

By July 25th, maybe the Cubs are out (Gomes), Cardinals give up (Knizner), or maybe Toronto implodes (Kirk, Jansen) which would be a real prize to get one of them and expect the rebound. I doubt Toronto does that just moving Moreno unless they do intend to play Varsho 50 games a year moving forward at C. Once we get past that it is Delay (Pitt) and would Detroit move 28 year old with 3+ more years in control Rogers. We real quick get back to E. Diaz and Delay being the top catchers to move and they are probably available right now. Maybe Gomes in a month, but the Cubs are 3.5 back in their division and 5 of the WC right now so they are nowhere near out of it with that division.

They should sign Zunino to a MiLB deal and keep in touch with Col/Pitt/STL on on Diaz/Delay/Knizner. It's all they can do here absent blasting Pittsburgh out for Davis or Endy and betting they are great quickly. Salvador is extremely expensive and may turn into a real anchor in a year and they already have Garcia and Segura. Imagine those three being 40% of payroll next year. That's a *yikes* for me absent some real other radical moves.

BTW, Fortes is tied for 12th (ironically with Diaz and Salvador) in catcher WAR this year. They need a backup. They have to trust Fortes here at this point. Delay is 11th BTW but that .390 BABIP is screaming of course. Gomes is 18th. Stallings is tied for 80th, and basically only old friends Barnes and Nola are worse than him.

Yan Gomes is out there and he has a track record of consistent production for most of his career as opposed to a guy like Diaz who never hit outside of going to Colorado and who has horrible home road splits

        • I’d be thrilled with Yan Gomes

          • Outside of that 1 start that skip left him out to dry Braxton Garrett has been ace level. Doesn’t go super deep into games but he is living up to the high draft pick

            • Johnny cueto gave up 6 more runs in his rehab start. He’s done

              • Garrett Cooper plays every game with an unholy amount of chewing tobacco in his cheek

                • Not winning 3 of 4 games against this brutally bad Pirates lineup will be the worst. Their lineup is as bad (or worse) than ours.

                  • Garrett should be an all-star. This offense is pathetic.

                    • Can we get Berti to steal a base here. What happened to his speed game?

Dane Myers went 4-4 with a HR and 7 rbis in that game.

Maybe it kicks Kim into doing something.

                          Garrett is an animal.

Surprised this doesn’t happen more often. Guy gets his last big pay day and precedes to just sit on his couch and shove Cheetos into his head.
