  • There’s a rumor that the Marlins are interested in Eloy Jimenez. I don’t expect that to happen, but that’s the type of deal the Marlins should be looking at. There’s talk that any deal would include Miami sending back ML talent along with prospects, and that Miami is also looking at Chicago’s RPs.

    • Jiminez is a really good hitter but i dont see the fit. He is worse than Soler in the field. He is a pure DH. So do we roll the dice with Soler in the OF and include Sanchez or DLC? I dont see it. Now if they can get him for cheap due to the money and maybe take on tim anderson as well to kind of lessen the prospect blow i could see the argument for doing it, but it's just not a good fit due to his defensive liabilities. That contract is pretty appealing though. Maybe you flip Soler for someone else and you get an improvement at DH at a very fair contract for a few years?

      • they probably dont have the prospects to get him, but god juan soto would be so clearly the missing link to making this a contender. Not a free agent until after next year, so you have a legitimate 2 year window to really win a world series. Wont happen, but a man can dream.

        • if you can get jiminez for DLC/Sanchez and minor leaguers, then jazz comes back, and you can also get candelario, that's a hell of a lineup with minimal hits to the current major league roster.

          Can roll out:

          C- Fortes/Stallings unfortunately
          1b- Arraez
          2b- Segura
          SS- Berti
          3b- Candelario
          LF- Soler/Eloy
          CF- Jazz
          RF- DLC/Sanchez
          DH- Soler/Eloy

Much better. If Jazz comes back and stays healthy, that is 3 high level bats added to the lineup. Just what we needed. I just highly doubt they do that though.

          • speaking of jazz, just announced he is starting his rehab at jupiter tomorrow. Figure he will get a week of rehab games so he should be back sometime in the next 10 days which is awesome.

Avisail garcia is with the team now.... They are going to call him up and send myers down almost assuredly. or maybe hampson which i would be fine with. He just said in the clubhouse that he will be added back to the roster tomorrow. So maybe that is why they could potentially view Sanchez or DLC as expendable for the right major league piece at the deadline?

            • we're also apparently having scouts at every cardinals game. So if there was any doubt that we were making more moves between the Robertson move and all the rumors of guys we are interested in, they are clearly not done. This team is going to look very different in 4 days.

Brought him up before, but giovanny gallegos would be the perfect 2nd addition to the bullpen. His numbers look like an old pitcher of ours edward mujica if you remember him but gallegos is obviously better. But he has similar super low whip for his career because he just does not walk guys. We could definitely use him in a cardinals deal if we go for a guy like say Dejong who we have been rumored in or maybe in a trade for one of their starters. Just 9 walks in 42 innings this year, strikes out a lot of guys, and his ERA looks pedestrian but he;s been better than that. He had 2 outings in june where he gave up 9 of his 18 runs for the year. Under team control for next year. closing and back end experience in big games for the cardinals. He would be the ideal bullpen addition to complement robertson and the lefties.

could have a bullpen of Robertson, Gallegos, Puk, Okert, Scott, Nardi, Brazoban, Chargois. That's an elite unit with real weapons from both the left and right side. That's probably a luxury addition and they will settle for maybe a chris stratton type guy instead, but i would love gallegos. Paul Sewald also makes a lot of sense if they go for a real high leverage addition instead of a middle reliever.

              • I wonder what Eloy, Anderson, and a RP would cost. I’d have no problem flipping Soler I’d need be.

If they’re looking to make a deal with STL, I really hope Carlson is involved. Getting a bat or bats with control would be fantastic.

that would really be wheeling and dealing but it makes a shit ton of sense. Eloy is under contract for years at less than 19 million but he is a really good DH and gives us power. Feels like he's been around a long time but he's only 26. Obviously you then deal Soler, but the question is what can you get for him that helps this year? It makes sense to get a slightly better guy in Eloy who is under contract for longer, but who would take Soler as a free agent to be but then also deal from their major league roster to do so? Unless you just try to get some prospect depth back for the next few years?

I think that would make sense but it feels like replacing a guy in the lineup more than adding to the lineup. It would have to be in a series of other moves that also add to the lineup like Candelario. But Candelario, Jazz, and Eloy added to the lineup while getting rid of Cooper and Soler would seem like an obvious net positive but also help us in future years at DH with Eloy under contract. Makes sense, but i doubt it happens. Eloy would cost a lot.

                  C- Fortes
                  1b- Arraez
                  2b- Segura
                  SS- Berti
                  3b- Candelario
                  LF- DLC
                  CF- Jazz
                  RF- Sanchez
                  DH- Eloy
                  Bench- Wendle/Berti, Gurriel, Stallings, Garcia

SP- Sandy, Luzardo, Eury, Garrett, Cueto, Cabrera
RP- Robertson, Gallegos/Stratton, Puk, Nardi, Okert, Scott, Chargois, Cueto/Cabrera

Entire rotation is under contract for next year, as is Arraez, Jazz, Eloy, Sanchez, DLC, Berti, Segura, Fortes, plus Puk, Scott, Gallegos if they go that route. Can easily run it back next year and have an even better team with the innings limit lessened on everyone.

                  • I feel like upgrading Soler to Jiminez and also adding Anderson is a short term and longterm upgrade to your lineup. Not only are you gaining control, but it just feels like Soler has dropped off, and you can’t count on him when you need him. In a perfect world you can use the value you get for Soler (he wouldn’t be going to Chicago anyway), to maybe even add another bat (a catcher?). It’s probably a major long shot, but I’d be looking into something like that.

                    • this is pretty brutal for Kim Ng regarding Cueto. If he performs well today, even with great velocity which was ridiculous considering his rehab appearance outings, if he has two great outings against the Tigers awful lineup and the rockies awful lineup, how on earth can she make an accurate assessment of the guy? I want him to be good because i thought it was a good signing. but if he puts up 2 good outings in a row, how the fuck do you evaluate this guy. I think he was fucking with the team and daring them to cut him and just end his career and give him his money, but how do you deal with him.

If it is just innocent and he is just finding himself at the end of july, what a fucking boost to this rotation that literally no one expected. He looks really fucking good these 2 starts so far. We envisioned him as a 3, if he can become that down the stretch, what a huge gift.

                      • watching cueto, i take the risk that this is who he is. If we get a guy like, say, montgomery, that's a big prospect haul. I think if we have any playoff chance, we need cueto to be legit. With eury coming back and Cueto all of a sudden showing signs, i think i take whatever was expected to be added through prospects to the rotation and just add another bat and take the chance that this is legit with cueto. Imagine cueto is just the guy we expected and we can re-invest the prospect haul that we expected to trade in a SP deal for another bat? What a fucking boost that could be. Instead of adding a guy like montgomery we get lucky with cueto and just add another bat? what a haul for us.

I have gone from hating cueto to really putting a lot on his veteran saavy.

                        • when cooper is gone in a potential trade, we always factor in his salary, but we also must factor in the cost savings for bruce sherman and his chewing tobacco costs. it feels like thats probably a million right there as well with the absurd lips coop has in at all times. any deal including cooper must factor in that cost savings as well. this is my hill to die on

                          • cueto velocity looks back down to 91-92 today. not necessarily a bad thing considering what he was last year with his velocity, but not the 94 he was at last week. i weirdly trust his veteran saavy now. this guy looks completely different now. IF he is this guy moving forward, what an absurd boost. I trust guys like him. I love how he fucks with guys with his change of delivery. Please just let him be this guy now because this is a completely different animal from how we envisioned his return. Id be so fucking ecstatic to call myself an idiot if he becomes a guy
