This flows back to - they need 1500 vastly upgraded PA next year. Who are these 3-4 bats they bring in, and what pitcher(s) are sacrificed to do it? That will tell us all we need to know. If they don't go for it with this pitching depth and a top 5 farm, they don't give a shit.

Also, they aren't selling the team. They are working in fringe players to see who the last 3-4 guys they protect on the 40 man. That's it. It's that simple of an answer.
Well the initial goodwill of just not being Loria. But you are right, they really haven't cared since day one, they told us flat out the team needed to be restructured for "sustainability" and not winnability. They have just about achieved maximum "sustainability". Now how long do we need to endure this phase until they intend on "going for it" ?

its remarkable you still cant see the correlation between sustainability and on field success.

All roads lead back to getting 1500+ radically improved PA next year (and I may be low-balling that, maybe it needs to be closer to 2,000).

I think we can end this dialogue - we can all agree they have hit maximum sustainable for this market. They did a TV deal and naming rights. They have purged all bad money contracts, and even deferred Stanton money is irrelevant. They have a roster of 22+ players, including acceptable minor league call-ups with potential behind them, all ready to go and MLB ready at give/take $45 million ($50m if they keep all of Pablo, Sandy, and Hernandez). They have a top 5 farm system, and let's be real here, they are going to have 2-3 excellent draft picks next year and can swing for the fences overslot and just draft college seniors as they need stars not depth at this point. That farm is still being loaded up.

          Median payroll 2021 is $140 million (2019 $144m). A bottom 20-25 club is $81-95 million in 2021 ($93-114m).

I see no argument to not get over $80 million after everything they have "saved" last few years (pandemic be damned), and really it should be over $90m floor as it is a right now contending pitching staff. Given that they probably trade an arm for at least 1 bat, we're talking they should be spending $30-40+ million on 2-3 bats. Hence, why no one, not even a Correa type player, should be off limits.

Get the 3-4 bats and go win some games. I'm going to really stop caring if they don't do it.

dude, I don't think you understand what they mean by "sustainability". I'm pretty sure I get what they mean, and it has ZERO to do with on-field performance. It has everything to do with profitability, and squeezing every penny out where they can, and they care ZERO about the record.

Don't get "in love" with any player. Kalil Watson, Chisholm, and anyone else that shows promise are going to be shipped out as soon as their value has been maxed out. This is why no long-term contracts...they are more attractive for trade that way.

I'm waiting for the Winter Meetings & Spring Training additions....they'll be trading at least one arm, for more minor league development types, and sign on the cheap Anthony Bass type fringe major leaguers who will once again allow them to draft one of the top players who will then go up for auction a few years later and keep the "sustainability" train going & going & going until they get tired & sell....which it will be an attractive buy for someone.

              • they have been 3-8 since the trading deadline, a .375 win pace. That equivocates out to 18 more wins this season. that would a final record of 65-97. 4th year of a rebuild, the team is only on a .401 winning pace.

KC on the other hand, in 2014 the 4th year of the 2011 rebuild won 89 games and lost the World Series......oh and by the way the 3rd year of their rebuild they won 86 games....just sayin'

                • rogers went from family emergency list to the bereavement list so someone in his family just passed away. been a real shitty month for marlins starters.

And the Indians haven't won a world series since 1948, and the Rangers (61), Brewers (69), Padres (69), Mariners (77), Rockies (93) and Rays (98) have never won one.

Good for KC. Let's see if the Marlins get 3-4 big bats in the offseason and don't sacrifice all the pitching to do it.

                          • For all the talk of Brinson’s BABIP (.349), Trea Turner’s is .363.

*obviously Sweet Lew’s BB% is terrifying

Gonna cost a lot, I'd imagine Meyer/Cabrera and Bleday would get a dialogue going though.

they also arent cheap hits for the most part. the one in the first inning yesterday was but for the most part he is hitting the shit out of the ball. it looks like he configured his swing to make him faster to the ball which has allowed him to hit the ball a lot harder a lot more consistently and i was reading that it also allowed him to fix the hole in his swing where pitchers were dominating him in the lower part of the zone and now he's quick enough to the ball where that hole no longer exists.

Also, he's been better than yelich this year as we all predicted. we won the yelich trade i think we can all agree on that.
