Because they (the front office) has to give them every chance to look good, because the Yelich trade right now looks like one of if not the worst trades not only in Marlins history, but it's looking like one of the worst in at least the last 10 years in all of MLB. . Yes Yelich has had a horrible season, but at least you know he's a legit MLB player....Yamamoto, Harrison & Brinson look like the career minor leaguers they should be...we got competely HOSED on that deal. They need Jazz Chisholm & Jesus Sanchez to really step it up, or this rebuild offensively looks like a complete disaster with regards to their trades. The fact is they have yet to really develop anyone in their system that can hit - right now Bleday is their biggest hope. If not they are going to have to pay (and that always means overpay) for free agent bats - and that hasn't exactly been an area they've excelled at so far....Dickerson comes here and loses 40 points off his career batting average...Joyce is down but not quite as bad, but last lear McNeil & Granderson were a disaster.

And they were so cocky as to spend a whole draft on more pitching.....YOU CAN'T WIN GAMES UNLESS YOU SCORE RUNS.

It's just Jordan's bad luck that he didn't get to pitch to Monte Harrison.

Is Jerar Encarncion with the Jupiter guys? With Jesus Sanchez and Monte failing so miserably, it's time to open auditions.

Corey Dickerson has a couple homers off lefties this season, doesn't he? Why bench him for Monte?

That's two straight starts for Pablo where the breaking ball doesn't break and the change doesn't dive. Unfortunate. Disasterous.

I don't think you have to overpay free agents. I mentioned Brad Miller's contract with St. Louis yesterday. Adam Duvall is playing on a $3.25 contract for his age 31 season. Seattle has utility man Dylan Moore for $570K. Those age 30 types are baseball's biggest bargains. And remember Austin Nola! The Marlins taught him to catch and then dumped him for nothing. The total cost of all four would have been less than Villar and the Marlins would be cruising toward a playoff spot.

I'll stick with my original appraisal of Starling Marte and his $12.5M team option for next season ... no way the Marlins do that, despite their jibber jabber now. I wouldn't pay him either.

Last night's debacle was merely one loss, no different than a one-run loss. When the Marlins don't get a quality start, they are going to lose almost every time.

Added note: Watched a Monday broadcast of ATL/Miami game on youtube. Atlanta's announcers, led by John Smoltz, are fantastic, at least by comparison to our duo. Only thing we have going for us is Kelly Saco.

Lee I agree, but you also need people than can assess hitting, and apparently they lack those people in the organization. It's obvious by now, Michael Hill is not very good at his job. There is no more Loria to blame for his buttfuckery. He's been here since 2002, and has not built a consistent winner yet. I think 18 years is long enough....but of course some will say it was just Loria interference for most of those years.

        • 29 runs and not one position player pitched? WTF is Mattingly doing? If we didn't use the bullpen arms why the hell leave Yamamoto pitching?

When it was 13-8 it was recoverable, but leaving Yams was just a white flag... and then we continued to use the bullpen when we have 7 games in 5 days which will be the biggest series we have in almost 20 years.

I think the bigger failure is Yamamoto even being on the team. The 2nd inning yesterday was the time to use Castano. I don't believe he's on the roster, though. You could make the argument they're saving him for one of the doubleheaders, but he's not going on Friday, that's got to be Neidert, then the next one is on Sunday, Wednesday to Sunday is 3 days rest, you maybe cut him off at 60 innings that still gets you probably further than Yamamoto got. I just don't understand why Yamamoto was on the roster.

The four free agents I mentioned earlier (and they were nearly free!) and 2020 wOBA:

                Brad Miller .398
                Adam Duvall .390
                Dylan Moore .387
                Austin Nola .386

Jonathan Villar .279 (a step or two down from LEW)

                            • Shafer released

I wouldnt be surprised to see Miami try to sign avet bat or arm this weekend. Jake Lamb was DFA today whom they liked. Sept 15 is the cutoff date for postseason roster

So what genius thought Yamamoto was ready to come back to the big leagues?
They are in a crunch-they got 4 RP ready to come up but they cant because no space so just keep trying to mix and match. They dont wanna DFA Castano/Yamamoto/Dugger/Guzman/Holloway yet

Eibner/Josh A Smith and Eddy Alvarez are only guys then the rest have to be 60 day DL to open spots. Like today they let Eibner pitch 1st game IF needed and then DFA him and recall Neidert for game 2

FO is pretty much managing this roster game to game. Yes they could open up more spots by 60 Day Tarp/Sierra but that means done for year and they hoping can come back

Yamamoto and Vesia have looked terrible this year. I wouldnt call either of them back up in 2020 but probably will have to

Because they are on the 40 man roster. Alot of guys have been getting looks because they have 47 guys on a 40 man roster

They dont wanna DFA 24 yr old arms yet and all the bats that are NOT on the ML roster arent ready yet. Gonna be same next year with Jerar and Devers on the 40 man but likely not ready. This is 1 problem with having so much young talent(SD had same issues this year and was reason they overpaid for ML guys) most guys arent ready yet but u have to play them because no space for vets or to open a spot

Holloway is terrible but not gonna DFA a 100mph FB to add a 35 yr old for 20 days, Yamamoto is crap but they still see him as a RP option for years and again wont add a 35 yr old for 20 days instead of him for the next 5 years

                              • tj, Yamamoto looks -how can I say this- a bit ineffective. I can’t wrap my brain around how any front office personnel (actively trying to snap a 17 year playoff drought) are concerned about losing him.
