Honestly Lee making a ridiculous statement just made me smile. Some normalcy back in my life.

    • He also wasn’t just a league average hitter at aaa. His plate discipline is really the only hole in his game. The guy is great defensively, has an absurd arm, is a legit problem in terms of stealing bases, and has great pure power. If he can refine his plate discipline just a little he is a long term major league piece

And not that it really matters but he’s built like a brick shithouse

      • I honestly think there's a good chance he's not going to be a good major leaguer, but he will definitely get his shot and very soon, to suggest he won't is absurd.

        • He was standing 3 feet from me at a Spring Training game this year and he is a MONSTER. Jerar is too.

i can agree with this. He has one hole in his game, but its a hole that will determine whether he becomes an all star type player or a 4th OF. In a normal year id say he would start the year in AAA and then come up in may/june or whenever the first OF injury occurs. with this weird indefinite delay we would have to see the structure of the season in order to see how his timeline plays out.

ive heard so many people say the same thing about both. not quite stanton like but similar. I think a good comp for monte is george springer but with less plate discipline but much more game speed. Since he's come over in the yelich deal his speed has really impressed me. When he gets on base he is going a huge percentage of the time and he is successful an elite percentage of the time. We have a ton of future OF prospects and eventually within the next year or 2 we will see which 3 pan out, but he will get the first shot out of any of them this year. I absolutely love the combo of Sanchez and monte.

            • Harrison will most likely get a good chunk of 2020. (we'll see how much that is) and all of 2021 to lock down CF unless maybe Villar super-impresses in CF and we re-sign him, but that's a pretty big long shot. Earliest we can expect Misner or Scott is 2022 realistically.

ya scott wont be ready until 2022 at the earliest. But there are legit 6+ guys in the outfield in our system who i can see panning out into good major league players eventually. Bleday, sanchez, misner, harrison, scott, jerar, burdick, i guess brinson still as he will get another shot this year. Thats a great group of cost controlled prospects that can pan out even without a FA addition. Worst case is you have to add 1 good free agent when we start trying to compete similar to reddick for the astros when kyle tucker wasnt ready to be counted on yet. Our OF is in a really good spot long term, as is the rotation in my opinion with Sandy, Sixto, Cabrera, Pablo, Smith, garrett, rogers, neidert, plus id assume we go SP with the first draft pick this year.

Obviously just listing guys doesnt make a good team but i really think if we continue to be patient for another year or year and a half we will have a really good, cost controlled, sustainable winning team for a good amount of time. Id like to see another C option and some kind of 3b prospect but those are luxuries right now given we have a good long term 3b in anderson and Alfaro is decent for the time being.

I have no worries about corner OF, we're going to find two quality major league starters out of that bunch. CF...we'll see.

                  • Looks like 2021 for MLB and even NFL. Can anyone even imagine a scenario in which games are played prior to the availability of a vaccine? Even expedited testing/approval wouldn't produce one before the end of the calendar year.

                      Yes.

NBA will be first to play.

                      MLB will be July.

there is absolutely 0 chance nba or nhl finish their seasons. MLB maybe. NFL and NCAA football should be fine, but nba and nhl will 100% cancel the rest of their seasons. The calendar math simply does not work in terms of getting players back in shape, a few regular season games, and then the extended playoffs with crowds of 20,000 people. This is also premature, admittedly, but at this point unless they are willing to have an unprecedented shortened season i wouldnt be surprised if MLB just cancels the season eventually.

I wish it had happened in football season (well, not at all of course). I hate the 24/7 games all day every day.

Like David Samson says, “we’ll have to wait and see”.

And to be clear, I’m not predicting the NBA “finishes its season”.

                            • I dont think either the NHL or nba will play another regular season game, but they'll play the playoffs even if it's in August and September.

we shall see and we are obviously all just guessing, but i just think that unless the NBA really wants to get their season to start around christmas from now on, their current season is done, which fucking sucks because this heat season, although clearly destined for an ECSF or ECF exit, was super promising for the future. Even if they want to do that going forward, i just cant imagine them just restarting their season 6 months later. if the rest of the season is going to finish in august and september what is even the point of finishing it. It just sucks but i just see no way in which they start the same season that suspended in march back in august and september. At a certain point it will get too far gone to be worth it.

My biggest thing is that this MLB season has some sort of MLB AND MILB season. it would be pretty fucking awful in such a critical developmental year to lose an entire year of minor league experience. that would be a nightmare even if the entire league would go through the same thing. On the other side, that mookie trade would turn around pretty damn quickly.

i hope so because i miss sports so god damn much. I just cant see them returning before a time in which it would make sense to re-start this/last season rather than just saying its the offseason and regrouping as a league and starting the "offseason".

On an unrelated note, I have mixed feelings about samson but his new podcast is decent. Any of you guys listen to it? It's kind of annoying that he tries to act like this authority at times but at other times he also is honest about his complete shit show of a tenure as a front office member here and the thinking of a front office member is put into perspective a lot. He is so clearly a pro ownership member of the media but it does give a very interesting brutally honest perspective that you dont generally get normally

i am absolute sports degenerate so i hate any of these sports seasons being shortened. this is just such a shitty situation when examined in any aspect. literally every single professional sports league appears like it will be impacted by this. Even if the NFL regular season wont be impacted, it seems like the draft will definitely be different with teams not able to examine prospects in person/in depth more because of this. IDK about your guys' fandoms but as long as the dolphins get Tua im cool with the football season doing whatever. Ive seen enough mediocre dolphins football in my life to care at this point but they are similar to my marlins fan experience- im numb but would be beyond exhilarated to see them in an actual meaningful playoff situation.
