    • btw, Brinson OPS hitting 8th: .674
      Brinson overall career OPS: .531

Harold Ramirez 4 months younger than Brinson, OPS .200 points higher at the big leagues.

It takes time to ramp up velocity for some guys. I wouldn't be overly concerned in a February spring training game.

        • Rough day in all regards ... horrible pitching by all but Yimi. Just one scratch hit for the offense. Is Elieser putting himself in the DFA picture?

            He has options doesn't he?

            • Yeah, I think so. He's had a tough time of it at the big league level. Dugger seems to be passing him by.

I mean, unless Urena is traded I don't see either in the rotation. Maybe Dugger serves the long man role with the big league club, and then Elieser converts permanently to reliever at AAA, and hopefully makes it back up at some point during the season.

                • More soft toss from Castano. The only pitcher who brought it at a steady 95 was Yimi Garcia. Even touched 97.

Peter O'Brien, last year's Marlin cover boy, has a hit for the Braves today.

The most important position player the Marlins have right now is Anderson, and you play him at his best position. Which thankfully, is also the one that the Marlins have no depth with in the minors. Leave him at 3B for the next 5+ years.

Yes and he won't be DFA'd.

Lopez, Yamamoto, Brigham, and Dugger have options also.

They have some good right hander flexibility.

Sanchez bat speed on display there ... pulled a fastball up and in. All in all, a stat-padding day for Houston system pitchers.

im cool with either. i want the best players/best lineup for the organization's future. to me that is just sliding anderson into rf until sanchez/bleday are ready where he is really good rather than moving villar to CF to create a spot where it doesnt seem he is very comfortable. Anderson is a good RF and villar in CF feels like a force so just leave Villar at SS/3b and until the kids are ready leave Anderson as a ridiculous arm in RF.

Couple that with brinson being there and just because of the investment being worthy of one more try every day in CF for a month or 2 and im cool with moving anderson off his spot. i generally agree with you but just given the group of guys we have and anderson being pretty strong in RF i feel like the best move for just the first few months until we can get one last chance for brinson in CF its just easiest given our offseason to put villar at 3b/ss when rojas is resting, anderson in RF, dickerson permanently in LF, Cooper the mostly full time 1b with aguilar hopefully not playing as much, and brinson one last every day chance to show something after march 25th.

                              C- Alfaro
1b- Cooper hopefully full time with the occasional aguilar spell. (I dont think aguilar lasts long just based on his/our teams history on guys like that)
                              2b- Diaz
SS- Rojas/ i'd be ok with phasing out rojas from a full time starting SS to a super utility guy and giving Villar SS full time.
                              3b- Villar
                              LF- Dickerson
                              CF- Brinson
                              RF_ Anderson
Bench- Cervelli, Aguilar, Ramirez, Joyce, Berti. That's 13. DFA sierra and just cut bait. Maybe find a spot for kemp in there wherever.

P- Sandy, Smith, Lopez (he's the next guy on the trade block/soon to be replaced if he doesnt figure it out), Yamamoto, Urena
RP- Yimi (will be our closer at some point this year), Kintzler, Steck, Brigham, Sharp, Elieser, Dugger and also some spots to go to people like Vesia, Conley, Tarpley, Lee, Eveld, Venditte, etc. My personal favs are Vesia, Lee, and Eveld to at some point make a splash as guys of the future.

Regardless, given our surplus of potential bullpen arms and the state of our organization, i expect us to go through 20+ bullpen arms this year just to see what we have.

trash cans were heard betwen dave van horne's every other inning updates on the score.

As i mentioned, I love Pablo Lopez and his potential, but after the obvious candidates in Urena/Smith, he seems like the next up in terms of this season being very make or break. He reminds me so much of henderson alvarez but he needs to prove it and stay healthy and not just be a guy whose peripherals look better than the actual product. HE is a mid rotation #3-4 at his peak to me but if he cant be counted on to stay healthy or to not avoid the big innings, he is a trade piece after this year given who we have coming up in the minors at SP in the next year or so. I hope he can stick though as he is a legit good dude and he seems like the perfect mid rotation innings eater.

and also, a few people have mentioned this along with me but i dont think aguilar makes it past june here. I like the cheap investment in a low risk/decent reward type guy but i dont think he is anything that cooper cant bring and id rather just throw cooper in there everyday and maybe even a time sharing with kemp if he can figure out 1b. Aguilar seemed like an obvious overachiever with milwaukee in 2018 and i dont think thats coming back despite the usual line of him coming into camp in "the best shape of his life". If healthy, id like to see cooper at 1b just about everyday until lewin diaz is ready.

                              • There has been a fair amount of discussion about drawing more fans to Marlin games. Radio broadcasting can have a lot to do with that.

A great broadcast puts you at the game - draws a picture of the field and everything that's going on there. It makes you want to be there! Dave Van Horne can no longer do that at age 80. He makes you wonder where you are because, sadly, he's no longer certain where he is. Aging sucks, but we can't get around it. My father lived in another world during his final years, and may have even found some amusement there. Our family loved him more than ever ... but we certainly no longer listened to him. We were satisfied to remember what he used to do and used to say.

Keeping Dave on the air is not doing him a favor or showing respect for his past body of work. It's doing the opposite. And it certainly isn't developing interest in the Marlins.

Note: Jarlin the Former Marlin with the W for the Giants last night. He's thrown two innings with a total of 12 pitches this spring. No hits or walks and three K's. Just noticed that over 19 innings of spring training appearances in his brief career, Jarlin has never yielded a run.
