Odd choice for Dickerson in CF. Why not just stick Villar out there? I get that he might not be ready, not gotten enough reps, but could he be worse than putting Dickerson out there?

Dickerson has surprising speed and also won a Gold Glove in LF in 2018. It's been a couple years since he played CF ... but he does have some experience there.

Good performance for Jazz (off and def), Monte, and some other young guys today. Yo, Christian Lopes, whoever you are.

My next crush is Nick Gonzales. Just when I thought he'd come crashing down this week, he went all collegiate crazy again. Today vs. Iona: 2 HR, triple, double, and single with 7 rbi. His New Mexico State team plays Arizona State and Spencer Torkelson on Tuesday night. And this from a kid who was offered no scholarships at all out of high school. The NMS coach wouldn't even guarantee him playing time! That is definitely my type.

That should be fun. I may have to see if it's streaming somewhere. Torkelson's been damn good too, against tougher competition.

Lol, I looked it up New Mexico State's opponents that they've played so far are a combined 0-16. Not that Nick Gonzales isn't great, I think he is, but hard to take too much from that.

Fair enough ... but Vanderbilt just finished a series with Illinois-Chicago, and Austin Martin is still looking for yardwork. Seriously, while the opposition has admittedly been weak and the air thin, Gonzales has nearly matched Kameron Misner's entire HR/RBI production from last season in only eight games. Misner played in fifty-seven. In all honesty however, I can't see Gonzales being any better than Peyton Burdick or JJ Bleday as a pro. He doesn't really have a great handle on any position defensively. Still fun to watch his story unfold because he was nothing at this time last year.

                • Finally, a worthwhile bit of journalism from Joe Frisaro. An uninspired troupe like the Marlins needs this. Villar should bring the same attitude.

English is a tough language due to multiple meanings. "Villar should bring the same attitude" was a prediction that he will, not a suggestion he would bring anything less.

                      • Marlins all over Keith laws top 100 and very high too. Jazz at 15, Cabrera at 34, sixto 49, Braxton Garrett at 62, bleday at 68, jesus Sanchez at 82. The more I see and read about jazz the more I think the move to get him was phenomenal and a great buy low for him and sell high for gallen.

                        • Marlins like Nick Gonzales but wouldn't mind if Det/Baltimore took him and left Austin Martin on the board. Reason? Martin could play 2B/SS/3B while Gonzales is likely 2B only.Marlins like spin rate on Arms and versatility on Bats. Not saying they would pass on Gonzales or Tork just because they only can play 1 spot but like Martin more because of it

Tork is probably taken by 1 of the AL Teams(DH) which means Hancock/Gonzales/Martin/JT Ginn all possible. Could come down to signing bonus-not because they are cheap but to take better players later in the draft

I would be all of Martin if here is there at #3

WOW this coming from Keith Law who hates Miami more than BA

The roadblock for Jazz was hitting those 25 HR in 2018 - tops for all minor league SS. It kept him swinging for the fences with that uppercut as he moved up in 2019. The result vs better pitching was the massive strikeout totals and poor batting average that suddenly made him expendable to Arizona. Prior to that, he was as untouchable as a prospect could get. Clearly, the Marlins thought Chisholm's approach was fixable. There are indications they were right.

I won't assume the Marlins sold high on Gallen, although that could prove true in time. He was just as good for Arizona after the trade than he had been for the Marlins prior to it. Gallen's AAA performance last season was incredible.

If Jazz stays focused on contact, I like to dream that he does a Francisco Lindor and hits for high average and mundane power in his early years. Lindor didn't flash HR power in a big way until his third ML season. Interestingly, the Marlins are trying to do the same type of thing with Harrison.

As to Keith Law's list, it matches my personal thoughts far more than the always-used MLB Pipeline (which will be releasing 2020 team prospect lists in the next few days). However, I prefer Rogers upside to that of Braxton Garrett. Just out of curiosity, where does CJ Abrams land on Law's list?

That's really eye opening with Jazz and Garrett. I do think Jazz is their # 1 prospect, but I'd probably have said in the 30s/early 40s.

I'll take the very aggressive Cabrera and Garrett rankings and the lower Sixto and Bleday ones too all things considered. This seems better than expected.

Also I'd slow your roll with phenomenal. It made sense on paper. It was good. It wasn't a total robbery like Lewin for Romo and parts. That is phenomenal on paper.

I say phenomenal in terms of potential payoff. I think jazz has elite level talent potentially and gallen to me is a nice player but I don’t really see top of the rotation stuff with him. Especially given our starting pitching surplus and relative lack of infield position prospect depth it’s a phenomenal deal with the potential to pay off tremendously without giving up a ton that we might end up regretting given our pitching depth
