Diaz should be competing for the 2B job in spring training, sure. Handing it over to him based on his AAA stat line is another thing altogether. I realize I am alone on this, but I would be intrigued to see Eddy Alvarez get a fair shot at making the team. Yes, he just turned 30, but his entry to baseball was delayed several years by his training for the Olympic speed-skating competition. I see a glimmer of Whit Merrifield in his game. Time will tell. Is he long on years? Of course. He's a golden ager like Dickerson, Rojas, Aguilar, Cooper, and Berti.

They can certainly clear the space like they did with Dean/Brice/Keller which was nothing short of impressive to get anything for them, but still this adds a layer of complications versus the rather irrelevant performance difference the Marlins would get versus "hypothetically upgrading" Isan.

It should be pretty obvious within a month or 2 whether there is anything actually there at the major league level and its not like we are going to contend this year anyways, so i'd just give him one last stretch to show anything. If not, then im perfectly fine calling it a huge bust and just moving on. Again, i dont expect much, i just think in a lost year and given his status as a prospect before the last two years and his obvious talent and physical ability, just give him one more run, dont hit him 8th (give him the 5 or 6 spot), and just see if he can show anything.
As far as villar, i'm cool with just giving him whichever corner outfield spot he feels most comfortable (or just sliding him in at 3b if they want to move anderson to RF). I like him and think he will be a good addition for nothing but money, but there are enough open spots that i think id rather see him in a corner outfield or 3b slot rather than taking ab's from brinson for just 2 months if we arent going to contend regardless.

They might be able to sneak Wallach thru roster cutdown after ST if spot is needed. Be interested to see what they do today/soon first.
I would give Isan the job thoLast edited by tjfla; 02-03-2020, 12:11 PM.

Will Diaz find the ability to hit southpaws? I have no idea ... but he may require some platoon assistance.
I 100% agree Isan needs a platoon partner for this year. Berti killed lefties last year. Done.

Don't bat him 8th, put him in a better position in the lineup to let him see some better pitches (it's clear he'll flail at anything thrown in the general direction of home plate). If he hits, awesome, there you go. If he continues to fail, banish him to AAA forever or trade him for another change of scenery prospect/player.
He's basically at 700. He has 200+ more PA to show me something before I write him off as a needed change of scenery. This lines up kind of perfectly with Monte's super 2 schedule/all-star break to start 3+ times a week and see what happens. Also fine with him in AAA for awhile and those PA coming in August/September.
And that's it. If he's not hitting over a .725 OPS with good defense in CF/base running, that's it.

Quijada not so much. He may clear and that's fine too. Let him pitch in AAA a year.

This may be a hot take, but maybe Caleb is moving to the bullpen to be a 2-3 inning reliever. He works well with Conley and Tarpley as a nice left handed core, and you can roll out Sandy, Pablo, Urena, Yamamoto, and Hernandez.
Why not at this point?
