    Update

    Marlins 25/40 man

    C - Alfaro, Cervelli (2)
    1B - Aguilar, Cooper, L. Diaz (3)
    2B - I. Diaz, Berti (2)
    SS - Rojas, Jazz (2)
    3B - Villar, Anderson (2)
CF - Sierra, Brinson, Monte (3)
OF - Dickerson, Ramirez, Dean, J. Sanchez (4)
    =18

SP - Sandy, Caleb, Pablo, Urena, Yamamoto, E. Hernandez, Dugger, Neidert, Sixto, E. Cabrera (10)
RP - Steckenrider, Stanek, Y. Garcia, Brigham, Sharp, Guzman, (6)
LP - Garcia, Conley, Quijada (3)
Other - Holloway, Mejia (2 - likely non 2020 players)
    =21

    Total = 39
*Moran is still on the 40 man, but I don't think any of us believe that will maintain

Definitely room for another CF or lefty reliever. And both if they trade Hernandez.
Exactly they were talking to teams on him already this just speeds it up. Likely end up with another Rookie Ball player which is fine. Brice/Conley/Moran/Urena all likely gone from 40 man by OD

Northcraft and CJ Carter are Brice clones and they are looking to sign more RP so this was expected

Wallach should be next to DFA for Cervelli. He should pass thru and be the AAA C this year

    • I still like:

DFA Moran -> Lefty reliever, Quijada AAA
Trade Hernandez ->26 man option CF, Brinson AAA
Trade Urena -> Sign Alex Wood or Ivan Nova

        Still got

        Cervelli-DFA Wallach
        FA RP-DFA Moran or Conley
IF trade Urena then sign Wood or Ivan Nova to replace

Can make 4 spots open easy still(Urena/Conley/Moran/1 of Dean,Cooper or Brinson)

They need the bats. They currently have 14 bats capable of MLB PA (and this includes Brinson, Dean, and Sierra who may not exactly do anything, or if you ask Lee, Isan too), so they should probably add another CF and not DFA any of these guys as they need them for an injury replacement at minimum. They still do need to get to August.

The tinkering is all with the arms - Urena, Hernandez, Conley, and "Moran" can turn into a bat and 3 new pitchers pretty easily and that works to make a cohesive team for now.

Reliever Steve Cishek and the Chicago White Sox are in agreement on a one-year, $6 million deal, sources familiar with the agreement tell ESPN. The contract includes an option that could take the deal to a second year at $12 million total.

And Barry Jackson with this - .... Marlins will keep seeking bullpen help... Villar, Brinson, Sierra, Harrison, Berti all options in CF (https://twitter.com/flasportsbuzz/st...94647600840706)

Veteran reliever Ryan Cook, 32, the former 2012 Oakland #Athletics All-Star who pitched last year for the Yomiuri Giants, signed a minor-league deal with the #Marlins. He'll be paid $750,000 with $250K in incentives if he makes their big-league team.

As for RP, Strop doesn't seem like he fits the profile of "throws a lot of strikes" that they have focused on this offseason. Kintzler/McHugh/Phelps would seem to be better fits.

Among the FA names the Marlins are considering in the pen : Pedro Strop, Brandon Kintzler, Hector Rondon. Others also. A veteran pen add still very much in play. The Marlins opening day closer is likely going to be decided in a Spring competition.

I didn't doubt you when you mentioned that they were interested in Strop...just that he was a weird option with the emphasis on throwing more strikes. I still think at this point, Kintzler is the best option.

                        • They 1 want guy on ML deal but don't be surprised if u see us add up to 5 more on minors deals. Like mentioned some interesting names(already Venditte/Cook) on their list and already have commitments from them however names like Phelps/Leone are waiting for ML deals or invites from contenders

Also as Mike Hill said yesterday-Urena is going to the pen BUT doubtful he lasts that into the season as they are dying to deal him. Will be interesting to see if they sign a Wood/Nova or even a vet arm(King Felix/Vargas) to Milb deal to compete with Elieser/Young guys for #5. Something to watch is we sign a vet SP to a milb deal and let them pitch 2 or 3 months then call up 1 of our young guys. Sixto,Cabrera,Neidert,Guzman,Dugger all are on 40 man which means they could be up at anytime

                          • Trade Urena and Conley,DFA Moran then give me Hector Rondon on ML deal and David Phelps/Dominic Leone/2 LHR on Milb deals and let the battle begin.

1 thing about these ML deal guys is we are only offering 1 yr deals. Most of them want 1+1 or 2 yr deals like Cishek got-we had 1+1 offers to Cishek,Romo but not the rest. Could get 1 sooner IF they did offer a 1+1 or 2 yr deal(but none of these guys are really worth it)

                            • Dbacks signed Rondon 1+1 for 2.5M/500k buyout

Option is for $4M with 1M in incentives.

                              • I don’t understand the talk of urena out of the pen with the way the rotation is currently constituted. Who are the 5 if we don’t sign someone? Sandy, Lopez and smith who are both yet to prove they can stay healthy, Yamamoto, and who else if not urena? Sixto won’t be up to start the year, neidert might be ready but he was also injured all of last year even though he showed some promise in the fall league. Maybe elieser? He’s got good stuff but I think his ideal spot for us would come as a multiple inning reliever once he gets more comfortable coming out of the pen. Unless they sign a back end stop gap I just don’t see how urena would be a bullpen guy if we keep him.

                                - - - - - - - - - -

If Phelps is a free agent I’d love to take a shot on him on a cheap 1 year deal. He came back and pitched pretty decently the last few months of last year and he has a history here
