His last 6 years of war are 3.4,3.2, 3.5, 2.1, 0, and then 2.5 last year. He’s obviously not a great player but he’s not the end of their career type additions that granderson and walker were. If the choice is between signing him and trading a piece like Caleb smith for Eddie Rosario, give me calhoun every time

He's a guy you bring in when you're trying to win 69 games instead of 67. Just doesn't seem like a forward thinking move. I don't give a shit if we lose 100 games again next year, let's set ourselves up to win in 21-23. This does nothing for that.

Our outfield is set up to win in that time, unfortunately you can’t fast forward two years when our large group of high end outfield prospects develops and 3 long term starters emerge. We have Sanchez and monte who should debut this year, then you have bleday likely next year, and then high ceiling wild cards like misner, Scott, victor victor. Going after a stop gap and waiting for the young guys under team control to develop is the right call

Harold Ramirez wasn't great last year, but he also wasn't a disaster. You also have Garrett Cooper who will see a lot of the time in the OF due to the acquisition of Aguilar. Why not just see if Cooper and Ramirez hell even Dean are at least worthy of bench spots down the road? The only way to find that out is to give them ABs at the major league level. Not worth spending money on a very marginal upgrade.

            • Right now the lineup is looking something like this: (not in batting order)

              C-Alfaro
              1B-Aguilar/Cooper
              2B-Diaz
              3B-Villar
              SS-Rojas
              LF-Ramirez/Cooper/Dean
              CF-Sierra/Berti
              RF-Anderson

Kole Calhoun just takes ABs away from Ramirez/Cooper/Dean, which is fine if the guy replacing them is someone you consider a future cog, but Calhoun is not that.

The Rangers traded him to the White Sox yesterday.

Agree with you completely. Getting Aguilar and Villar ruined the opportunity for a corner left handed bat. They have to play Aguilar and Cooper as they could be longterm guys (even if in bench roles). Ramirez to a lesser extent than them too, and you can't radically cut into their PA. I mean, honestly Berti too should be playing all the time. If last year was half-real, that's incredible. He's earned the opportunity.

What they now need is a lefty CF on a 1 year deal to replace Dean in your hypothetical (kicks Dean and Brinson to AAA). I think this is a cheap guy to help Berti/Sierra out there, or they go for broke with a Joc type and sign him longterm. (To note, getting a longterm right handed bat is with eyes for 2022 and longterm concerns trump current roster organization. I'm ignoring as ideally, they'd kick Dean and Cooper/Aguilar/Ramirez to the curb and sign Castellanos/Ozuna and a cheap CF lefty).

Unless they start playing Villar in CF (I maintain this is a good idea to try), then they can sign a lefty corner bat for 3B/LF/RF to replace Dean. That could work.

Like, this is great if Villar can handle CF.

                      Alfaro, Wallach
                      Aguilar, Cooper
                      Isan
                      Rojas, Berti
                      Anderson
                      Castellanos/Ozuna
                      Villar, Sierra
                      Calhoun/Dickerson, Ramirez

                      • I just don't see the need for Calhoun/Dickerson in that scenario. Let Aguilar, Cooper and Ramirez work out who is worth keeping around in the coming years.

You could talk me into Dickerson, but I feel like he'll be way more expensive than Calhoun.

I agree with you I think. Have to see the deal amounts to be certain.

I just want a longterm RHP bat they can front load, or amass prospects in a salary dump.

New report SD looking at S. Marte too. Marlins should really be all over them to absorb Myers for another Neidert/Scott, Osiris/Fitterer/Comp A, and Brigham/Vesia type package.

                            • Teams were calling on our SP(Sandy/Pablo/Urena/Caleb)

                              99.99999% Sandy and Pablo Stay
50/50 on Caleb-if they get an offer they like see ya
                              90% Urena Gone

The thing hold all up is FA SP havent decided yet so teams dont wanna trade until they know

Looking more and more like we just gonna sign a FA OF like Dickerson or Calhoun. Reason they like Calhoun more is he costs less(they only looking for stopgap) and less interest. Dickerson has 6 teams AND prefers to go to a contender

U guys realize Berti,Brinson,Harold,Cooper,Dean all have options right? They all won't be on ML roster-all are RHB

Should be quiet today with just Rule 5. Miami is looking at a P. Sterling Sharp buzz name still for us and others

                              - - - - - - - - - -

                              Rendon to LAA for 7/245
                              Treinen to LAD for 1/10

                              - - - - - - - - - -

WE called on Haniger and Eddie Rosario

Seattle wants crazy price still for Haniger and Minnesota wants Sandy but Mish and others think settle for Pablo. Miami offered Caleb and more for Rosario and more but Minnesota is waiting to see if they get a FA first

Something to monitor over next few weeks

                              • Giving up Caleb smith plus others for Eddie Rosario is idiotic. Just sign a fucking outfielder, no need to trade someone for an above average at best stop gap type guy. That makes 0 sense
