      • so does villar play SS and rojas switches to super utility role?

        • Solid day adding 2 MLB bats for basically nothing. Still think they need 1 more, but this is a very good start to the offseason. I assume they'd play Villar in RF and move Anderson to 3rd...or maybe start Villar at 3rd to see if they can live with him defensively there.

          • So im a bit out of the loop. How did the Marlins get a 4 WAR player without giving up anything too valuable?

            • idk if im too crazy about paying villar 10+ million a year but given our non existent payroll for next year its all good. now give me pineda and a few bullpen arms and lets get ready for next year.

Who cares about how much Villar is making next year? They haven't even replaced the Prado money from last year...let alone the money they were paying Castro.

There is plenty of room in the payroll to add another bat and a couple of bullpen arms.

                    Yup...but a 4 WAR player for $10 million is a bargain.

of course, but i highly doubt he puts up 4 war again here. not to say its a bad pickup though. I think MLb is going to adjust the ball this year and we are going to see less explosive hitting numbers

id take a 2.5 WAR from Villar as about what i'd expect, which is awesome for getting him for nothing.

                      • These moves are fine, but they really make me think that they aren't going to spend any significant money on Free Agents.

We'll see, but Mish still says the plan is to spend more this offseason:

Marlins most importantly have begun the re investment process in team payroll. 10+ mil to Villar & a couple more mil to Aguilar in the early Winter. There will be more money spent from everything I hear.

                          • I just want a piece that I can say, yeah that guy will be a big contributor when the team should be getting good. Villar is a free agent next year, and probably in the not so distant future settles into a utility role, and Aguilar will probably do fine next year, he's worth taking a shot on sure, but I'd say about as much chance of him becoming a future mainstay as Garrett Cooper at this point.

Seems like these are the moves of a team that's determined to win 69 games instead of 59 next year. I'd just like to see us set our sights a little higher.

I am speechless they did this. This is fine money to spend.

I agree that they could use a middle of the lineup bat...someone like Castellanos or Ozuna. Not sure they give out that type of contract this season though. I could see a lefty bat, maybe a Dickerson on a 2 year deal or perhaps the Japanese OF that they were said to have some interest in.
