BA compared him to Victor Robles. Fangraphs compared him to Albert Almora. I think Almora is much more likely. Even still -- to get a solid everyday OF who's a 1-2 WAR player for less than $5M isn't something that happens anymore in the free agent market. Considering his age, then the potential upside in his game, and THEN the fact that they'll market the hell out of him, that's absolutely fine by me.

yup, but they have done a good job of getting much needed depth, specifically SP depth, throughout all levels of the organization. Some of our minor league rotations next year have a shot to be very talented and finally filled with almost exclusively prospects instead of these 26 year old organizational fillers. For example, our AAA rotation next year might be Neidert, Gallen, Dugger, Peters, and Merandy. Usually for the last decade that has included 2-3 journeyman non prospects. Same with AA as their rotation might be Guzman, Yamamoto, Mills, Beggs, Poteet, maybe elieser, etc. that matters and if we had that kind of SP depth in the first place we would have been able to keep more of the guys we dealt away.

Also, when you trade four All-Stars, you would hope that would be the case. Ideally, you'd like to see more names in the top 100, though.

Gaston signs with the rays for 2.6. Poor orioles, they are a complete and utter trainwreck.

MLB.com does a terrible job at height/weight. I think they get 1 measurement and use that until they hit the 40 man. They had someone years ago(I think it was Brent Keys at like 5'8 170lbs for 5 years then he made the 40 man and went to 6'0 185)

Heard he is 5'11 200lbs and Victor Jr is 6'0 190 but projected at like 6'2 220+ which is why people think he might be a 1b

It makes no sense for teams not to at least try. Its like purposely cutting off a major source of talent for no reason other than being cheap. Not getting guys is one thing, not trying is another entirely, especially for small market teams.

Exactly. Like said Gaston isn't worth the cash but u never know? Rather have talent then money left over like Miami used to do!!

good for Gaston though, he ended up getting the same amount of money from the rays that we were rumored to give him back before the PED test. Rays farm system is absolutely loaded for the future. Franco will be the top prospect in baseball by 2020.

Its what happens when u ALWAYS use your IFA cash,draft based on talent and trade guys when value is HIGHEST

Miami is wanting to follow this model(well minus trading guys at highest value). Use ALL of the IFA Cash every year and draft BPA

which is why i continue to say that while individual moves will of course not always work out, the overall process that we are now using to build this roster and entire organization is much more important. There will be individual moves that everyone doesnt like, but there is no question how much smarter we are running the organization under this current regime.

process is always more important than the end result in terms of team building strategies. Given what we know about building teams in modern baseball, this team will be a winner given time if they stick to this plan of focusing on minor league player development, spending in the draft, and actually being involved in IFA.
