Lou, would you trade one of Edward Cabrera, Jesus Luzardo, or Trevor Rogers for Oswald Peraza?

JJ Bleday was not at FanFest..
Huge shoutout to Jesus Sanchez. The guy stood in the hot sun for hours putting balls on tees for the kids, taking photos with them etc. My sons and I saw him like 5 times walking the concourse. Sixto Sanchez was on the Diamond for about 10 minutes and we never saw him again.
My sons got a photo with Wendle (who was a part of the free clubhouse tour), Berti, Sanchez and surprisingly, they got a nice selfie with Jazz somehow as he was getting mobbed while walking the concourse. FanFest was packed.Last edited by Namaste; 02-12-2023, 08:34 AM.

In any event, he's a welcome addition wherever he lands. He's good. I really don't get Oakland's thinking here. Bleday is a swing path away from exploding, but you can say that about 100 guys at all times and most don't do it. He's a good prospective add, but not at the expense of a maybe SP or high leverage pen arm with 4 years of control. But whatever. Arraez fills that Gurriel spot IMO - that's the backup 1B situation and since there are no other bats around, you rely on effectively Berti to take over 2B (as well as their arguably top 3 bats in AAA are Amaya, Groshans, and Edwards. Or you just move Jazz back and maybe Sanchez/Burdick/Jerar can handle an OF spot), etc. I don't see how Voit or Mouse help compared to what happens if Wendle gets hurt. It's still a SS as the most impactful add to me.
As mentioned if they can pull a Reynolds+Bednar/Brubacker and only shave 1 MLB arm doing that (call it Rogers, Meyer, Eder, J. Sanchez, 1-2 decent things outside top 10 prospects), and sign Andrus on top of that (or even better trade for Rosario without hurting the MLB team) I think the Phillies would be concerned.
One small concern for me now is the OF depth in the upper minors without Bleday. if Sanchez and/or DLC struggle again there isn’t much besides Jerar in AAA. My guess is the AAA OF will consist of some combination of Jerar, Conine, Magnum, Miller, and possibly VVM. LeBlanc can also play a corner spot. But the point is, not much in the way of OF prospects in the system. I wonder if they look at drafting a college OF early this year.
The AAA infield should be fun to keep an eye on at least. Have to have one of Amaya, Groshans, or Edwards can develop into a future starting SS this season. I’m actually hoping one of them does enough to win the job this spring and pushes Wendle to the super utility role. He can play a corner OF spot too and sort of solve my first concern.

Not sure I see what the purpose is either, but there was something there. Maybe they reconsidered and decided to go with the younger guys like Jerar, but I wouldn’t rule out another vet bat being added cheap.

Bold Prediction: Burdick establishes himself as the best of the DLC/Sanchez/Jerar group by the end of the year.

I think the short and longterm roster makes a lot of sense TBH, absent they need 2-3 things: longterm SS/CF (opposite Jazz. This is a now upgrade), longterm 1B/DH (opposite Berry, i.e. they wanted Casas bad. This one can be in a year), and if neither of those two are a total star player (likely since you know, they should have just signed one of the big 4 SS or Nimmo), a longterm star anywhere Jazz/Arraez aren't playing (effectively, Reynolds).
Also the draft is such a crapshoot I think you just take the top college bat who is projected at C/2B/SS/3B/CF and see how things land in 3 years. Basically, no DH only types uh. You never know. Profar was a SS and is now a LF. Jazz is now a CF. All these guys move.

Like I said last week, I think the gurriel thing comes back to our ability to hit lefties. As we went over, Sanchez obviously can’t hit lefties and dlc is somehow better against righties, so I’d like to see that last bench bat go to gurriel. Moves Cooper to dh, soler to lf against lefties, and berti at ss. Leaves dlc, Sanchez, wendle, and stallings off the bench. I like the idea, and gurriel can’t cost too much.

Korean standout Lee Jung-Hoo is apparently going to be posted after the KBO season.
Hit .342/.407/.495 in 6 seasons/3146 ABs. 53 more BB than K in his career.
There is course going to be some bit of drop-off going from the KBO to MLB, but his approach makes most think he will make the jump well.
Will be just 25.
He will break records of Korean players most likely but its the type of move the Marlins need to make.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."
