Pretty solid idea here with their lefty depth.

This is in all likelihood a very close to money neutral move. and we clearly got the better reliever.

Barnes is basically as good as any of the current FA reliever options, so a pretty good deal. Had a very good 2nd half after a horrendous April and May and was an All Star in 2021.
I'd still like to see them take a flier on Reyes on an incentive-laden deal and try to get him healthy.

Miami will also get cash considerations on top of this reliever-for-reliever swap, per Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. Mish has that sum at about $1MM, to offset a portion of the $7.55MM salary that Barnes is owed in 2023 and the $2.5MM buyout on his $8MM club option for 2024. Bleier is due $3.5MM this season and carries a $3.75MM club option (or $250K buyout) for 2024.

Before this trade today, I thought they needed a back-end arm in the pen and another bat (either LF or 1B). Now bullpen is off the list. They need to go find 1 more bat to complete the offseason. Not great options left unless they swing another pitcher for hitter trade. Profar fits the profile, but I haven't heard much about him lately. Since Yuli Gurriel is still unsigned, I suppose it's possible they circle back to him.

Don't know how they will be a top half offense, but the pitching is going to be fun.

one thing to think about with barnes in 2024 in beyond- if the change of scenery works out really well and he's back in form this year, we could have 2 really nice options moving forward for next year. either theyve found a nice stop gap closer for 2 years, with next year being 8 million, or they are confident in one of these super young flame-throwing SP prospects moving to closer next year and either having a really nice set up option in barnes, or a really nice expiring contract trade piece next offseason. Either way, i really like the move. Go get Reyes now and then reynolds please and then lets get to opening day.
Either way, Ng has done a good job this offseason trimming some fat and making some moves with her limited resources. Still need that 1 piece (Please Reynolds as i said), but pretty good offseason with her hands tied behind her back.
Gone from last year are Rojas, Aguilar, Anderson, Lewin, Pablo, Elieser. In are Arraez, Segura, Cueto, Chargois, Enright, Barnes, Edwards, Amaya.

Also, i think Nic Enright has the chance to be a closer at some point, or at least our next really good bullpen find. If you look at his numbers in the minors, he is ridiculous. I think he will start off in middle relief but it wont be long before he's pitching in key situations. No one talks about rule 5 guys, but he was a great pick.

Getting Wendle to the bench is the idea for me. They like DLC a lot and Sanchez has some potential so I can see them rolling with that knowing Bleday/Burdick/Jerar can all break out and maybe June/July is get an OF if needed territory. Worst case Soler can play LF, Arraez 1B, Cooper DH, and you have Wendle/Berti as a 2B starter you know. Basically, they have a lot of redundancy here.
Fortes, Stallings
Cooper (Arraez)
Arraez, Berti
_____, Wendle
Segura (Wendle/Berti)
DLC, Sanchez
Jazz
Garcia
Soler
Andrus is it in FA (and does make some sense even if they need more than just him), but Rosario/Peraza is the real prize IMO.
