  • Nothing could throw more water on what is already barely a candle's flicker than signing Gurriel and/or Chapman. How sad that would be ... even pathetic.

Eric Hosmer, who none of us wanted, would have been a far better option as a platoon first baseman - at minimum wage no less.

I’m eager to see what Fangraphs spits out.
And Meyer would be somewhere if he wasn't hurt, and Cabrera and Garret have .168 days of service time so they have 6 full years of control so technically still a first year player. A lot of arm talent. Wonder when they'll use some of it to improve the team.

Eury has only thrown 150 professional innings or so, so I'm not going to split hairs with him. He's still really volatile as larger pitchers often struggle with control, so we'll see. Remember, Randy Johnson didn't become a monster until he was 29.

Gurriel and Hosmer are both likely very bad, so yes I agree.

I saw Chapman was still the 3rd hardest throwing lefty reliever last year. He seems like a guy the Marlins pitch wizards can extract value from with some pitch mix and usage tweaks. He would make a lot of sense if they move out Scott to Minnesota in an Arraez deal.

Arraez and Kepler --- > Pablo, Scott, likely some outside top 15 prospect
        Chapman
        A. Reyes
Profar or some other platoon OF

It's not the team we want offensively as it's missing the Correa/Reynolds/Nimmo level monster, but the pitching would basically be fully intact since they signed Cueto and July could be interesting.

Amassing vets won't make the Marlins competitive or entertaining. I'm all for rolling the dice with high upside, major league ready prospects only. Rafaela, Peraza, Pineiro, Winn, Outman, Cartaya, Burleson.- those types of athletes.

          • Marlins clearly seem to have fucked up yet another early first round pick on a bat. No one is high on berry. Bleday, berry, Connor Scott, all just complete whiffs. This front office needs to go. And kahlil Watson has talent but his first full year could not have been more disastrous

baseball prospectus has the guy we just traded Miguel Rojas for higher than a guy who was a top 5 pick less
than 6 months ago. That’s fucking pathetic

            • Gurriel is fine as a buy low option for a year for Cooper and solers inevitable injuries. He won a batting title a year ago. For 1 year 2.5 million or whatever he will get it’s fine

Its the positions. Having three effective DHs again would be quite the "WOW" moment

That's a bit aggressive, but for the bold I'd say keeping every pitcher fits that bill, and the team can changeover fast to this:

                    Sandy, Luzardo, Pablo, Rogers, Eury
                    Cabrera, Meyer, Bender, Sixto
                    Eder, Garrett, Scott, Okert

This can happen in 2024 effectively opening day and the sky is the limit here. This is best pitching in baseball upside for 2024.

They need bats, but I'll keep saying there is something to be said of keeping all of the arms if there is some other way to find the 3 needed offensive upgrades.

                    • List is eury, Meyer, salas, Fulton, Eder, sixto, Vargas, Amaya, then berry . Less than 6 months ago he was a top 5 pick. That is the height of incompetence

All 3 of them can play the field. Cooper plays first and can play outfield, soler can play 2 of spots, gurriel can play first

It'll be interesting to see if our drafting approach changes now that Kim doesn't have Jeter and Denbo around.

                          • I can't understand why everyone (rightly) is against signing Bauer, but appears to be ok with signing Chapman.

Their allegations are both bad but much different. I’m fine with Chapman and apparently we just made a stronger second offer to him and might be signing him soon. I think that’s as good of an option as we will be able to sign at closer

Vargas? Is that an autocorrect for Watson?

We have to put some weight on this as a long-standing major scouting source, but I find it hard to believe any other talent evaluator is going to put Berry that low. Or maybe this is a huge compliment to Amaya and that is a real steal. Seems like a knee jerk SSS reaction here, and he wasn't even that bad in 2022. I also think it's puzzling Sixto is 6th, but maybe they believe he will one day be healthy.

I wouldn't get too worked up about this one yet.
