  • Someone on twitter mentioned that with Correa back to the Twins on a longterm deal, Royce Lewis might be more available. That’s an intriguing player who could be the longterm SS, or maybe even the answer in CF.

    • If they are comfortable with Jazz or Segura playing SS, the trade with the twins for pablo just makes too much sense. Pablo and Rojas for Arraez and Royce Lewis, then trade Rogers + for Reynolds, sign chapman/reyes and see if you can bring back BA for cheap, and you have a team.

      C- Fortes
      1b- Cooper/BA
      2b- Arraez
      SS- Jazz
      3b- Segura
      LF- Reynolds
      CF- Lewis
      Rf- Garcia
      DH-Soler
Bench- Berti, Stallings, DLC, Sanchez/Bleday, BA
SP- Sandy, Luzardo, Cabrera, Cueto, Garrett with Eury, Meyer/Eder, Fulton in the wings. Thats 4 significant upgrades over last year with Segura, Reynolds, Lewis, and Arraez, plus very likely bouncebacks for Soler and Garcia. you've improved at 6 positions, fortes is likely going to hit better than stallings did last year, Jazz will hopefully stay healthy, and Cooper and BA are solid options at 1b until Berry hopefully gets up here sometime in 2024

My only question is if Lewis is considered viable in CF.

Honestly I don't understand why we haven't seen the idea of Jazz in CF explored.

          • Lewis has played a grand total of 21 innings in CF in his professional career. 46 in the Fall League 2020.

I think that's a reasonable question. But I'd still be interested in Lewis at SS, where the Marlins might not have a long term solution, either.

I agree on Jazz in CF. You'd think the skillset is there. The only reason I could see them being hesitant on that would be not wanting to stunt his progress at the plate with learning a new position.

Jazz is a top 40-50 asset in baseball at 2B, so while positionally moving people around may be beneficial with the Marlins players, but let's also not create new problems. Worth maybe a look in spring training, but they probably know already what he can do.

The answer is to just get a longterm SS and CF and leave Jazz alone. As we've all been saying for literally a year but it seems now they may be close to doing it.

Who gives a shit? We're trying to win games. As of this very moment Segura, Jazz, Rojas, Wendle all on our roster, middle infielders. CF is........

Is there a player you can name who was absolutely ruined by a position change? Worst case scenario it doesn't work out and you move him back.

And mess with his head in the process? It's not just a worst case move him back. While a lot could go right, a lot could go wrong also. You do the move if there is high confidence IMO.

They should just get a CF. It's just that easy and don't really need to overthink this in January. But sure, try him out in spring training and see what happens.

                      • It's a shame we ruined Miguel Cabrera by putting him in the OF in 2003 even though he came up as a SS/3B, what could've been.

                          • I believe Jazz and Segura will open the season at SS and 2B respectively.

                            • And just to be clear, I agree the way to go now is to go out and get a CF. More lamenting the fact that we haven't tried Jazz out there before now, it may have solved this issue and allowed us to spend money on just the best bats we can afford regardless of position.
