    Nope. Not at all.

But if you did do that, you also trade Pablo, Jazz, Rogers, Luzardo, Bleier, Chargois, Floro, Scott, Okert, Stallings, Berti, Cooper, Rojas, Wendle, Soler (eat money), and if possible, Garcia if you don't eat a lot of money. I'm sure they'd be really pleased signing and then having this blow up.

It's a full tear down and if you don't have 5+ years of control, see ya later. If Jazz/Rogers/Luzardo will take 5+ year extensions, they can stay. Then we can complain when they don't sign Devers and Nola next year when the entire team is club controlled besides Garcia? rinse/repeat, endless cycle, kick the can.

Just sign a real SP who will throw 150+ innings, trade Pablo and Garrett for 2 bats, and dip into the farm depth for a third one (and if you are fancy, signing a 4th like your boy Drury). Let's not "trade Yelich" AGAIN.

    • “Bottom line: gotta trade Alcantara”. Lee, I like you.
I needed a good laugh I’ve been packing for a move all day!!

      • Trade Alcantara and they may as well move the franchise.

        • Apparently we’re interested in cueto who would be the perfect veteran addition if we trade Pablo. Not gonna happen because no one wants to come here but him and conforto in free agency plus Pablo for another bat would be a good offseason despite the terrible start so far

Good? Eh. Better than what we've gotten? yes.

I would love this (Cueto). I just saw the Morosi tweet after you mentioned this.

He was essentially just as good as Pablo in 2022. And he’s Dominican so maybe that would make a Pablo trade a little more palatable for Sandy?

                @jonmorosi
The #Marlins are among the teams staying in touch with Johnny Cueto's camp, sources say. There could be an opening in Miami's rotation if they trade Pablo L

                • And if they do sign him before a pablo trade it would indicate some sort of major trade coming.

                  • conforto and cueto in free agency, a pablo trade for 1-2 bats, and then a prospect trade for another bat and i can get behind the offseason. they need more relievers though.

                    • whats with the dislike for conforto on a short term deal? I get he was injured last year and he had shoulder issues contributing to a relatively bad year the year before as well, but the 4 years before that were .927 OPS, .856 OPS, .797 OPS, and .939 OPS. The positional fit would probably be weird and we would once again be stuck with a non CF in CF, but short term thats a really good bat to add in concert with whoever they trade pablo for and hopefully 1 more bat after that (prospect trade)

Or you keep Conforto in a corner spot, cooper full time at 1b, soler full time at DH, Garcia in RF, and can still trade for a CF.

                      • Yes, Cueto is the cheap version of the "Eovaldi" post I made above. SIGN TO STRENGTH, TRADE FROM STRENGTH. It's why I have been saying for months just sign a SP and that allows the Pablo trade. TBH sign TWO of them (Wade Miley also? A cheaper Eovaldi? He's fine as a 6th SP) and also trade Luzardo or Garrett.

If the rotation is Sandy, Rogers, Cabrera, Luzardo/Garrett, Cueto + Miley (Miley is basically going to be pitching say the Cabrera and Cueto days here and maybe get 100-120 innings as a bulk reliever over 40 appearances to help them)..... and we're waiting on Eury, Eder, and maybe Sixto magically reappears.... and Meyer and Fulton presumably 2024 options on top of that....

They can trade Pablo, Luzardo/Garrett, Salas/Cappe, Fortes/Stallings, Rojas/Wendle/Berti, and dip into their lefty RP depth (can't believe I am saying that) as well as all the LF candidates are good throw-ins.

No way that doesn't get 4+ MLB upgrades, presumably 3 bats and a RHP reliever. No way. Unless they are incompetent.

You answered your own question. He's a luxury upgrade for presumably Sanchez as the other OF. It's positional for me.

DLC is going to play, so is Garcia, so signing a corner guy is going to be tough when they have two other corner guys (Sanchez, Bleday) who may just click with a swing path tweak. They have a lot of upside even if they may not realize it, so if they're spending money/trade assets, I think you have to go longterm CF or SS first, then 1B and C can use luxury short and longterm upgrades, and then we get to LF and 3B.

If they can do nothing else, maybe he makes sense, but they have the ability to solve three of CF/SS/1B/C with upgrades first if they so choose to spend even fleeting money and cash in 2 SP + other parts.

As i said, i think you can move Soler full time to DH since they said he has back issues and cant play in the field every day, Conforto to LF or RF, Garcia in the other corner OF spot, Cooper full time at first, and there is still room for DLC, Sanchez, and Bleday to battle it out for playing time, plus injuries are inevitable. None of those guys have done anything to earn a guaranteed role before spring training. I personally think its nuts to think DLC earned anything by having a good month when he was literally horrific the remainder of the year when we were actually trying to win. His OPS by month starting from April was .976 (16 ab's), .528, .569, .651, .222 (27 ab's), and then a big september with 1.143 OPS. Going into september according to his game logs his OPS was .581 over 244 ab's. He shouldnt be guaranteed anything any more than Sanchez or Bleday. Or use DLC as the 5th OF, one of Sanchez or Bleday as the 4th OF/platoon partner for someone, and the 3rd stays in AAA to the inevitable injury. Having names you can throw out there does not equal having quality options. Bleday probably needs a few more months in AAA to work on what they attacked him with to end last year. So sanchez as 4th OF, DLC as 5th OF, Conforto in LF, Garcia in Rf, Soler at DH full time, and then you go get a CF with a pablo trade.

I think you're severely overrating DLC and our internal options and underrating how fucking good conforto was when he was healthy, albeit that was a few years ago. If his medicals check out and you can get him on a 1-2 year deal, that's a home run signing for a few years. The guy put up 15 WAR over 4 years, and 1 of those years was the 60 game 2020 season.

That opens the door to a pablo trade for a CF like Thomas or one of the other Arizona options, or if you want to use the internal guys like DLC, Sanchez, and Bleday in CF, you can deal pablo for a C or SS and upgrade either of those positions pretty well. signing Conforto opens up a ton of options as well as providing what would likely be our 2nd best bat behind jazz. He is an OBP machine and a HUGE power bat if he's actually healthy.

                            • they should also take a flier on alex reyes as well as a back end bullpen option. Him and sandy are buddies

                              • Say they sign conforto and cueto and blow the doors off the pirates somehow for reynolds for a ton of non major league prospects even though it seems like he's not actually available (Say Meyer, Eder, Watson, Salas/Cappe, etc).

                                C- Fortes/Stallings
                                1b- Coop
                                2b- Jazz
                                SS- Unfortunately Rojas
                                3b-Wendle
                                LF-Conforto
                                CF- Reynolds
                                Rf- Garcia
                                DH-Soler
                                Bench-DLC, Sanchez, Berti, Stallings
SP- Sandy, Luzardo, Cabrera, Rogers, Cueto, Garrett, eventually Eury, Meyer, Eder, Fulton (obviously dependent on what it would take for Reynolds)

that's a really solid team. I'd do anything in our power to sign conforto and trade for reynolds without touching Luzardo, Cabrera, Sandy and Eury. Those 3 to me should be untouchable unless it's for a proven star.
