He hasn't even made his MLB debut yet and is 22. Tough crowd. Frankly, a 2+ WAR projection for a 23 year old is outstanding. It's better than Bleday (1+).

Practically, he's an injury replacement next year and hopefully earns a starting spot in 2024.

    • The Marlins' two September call-ups so far are Bryan De La Cruz and Jeff Brigham. Many teams use September call-ups to give prospects a chance in the big leagues. The Marlins, a team with nothing to play for, and very little reason for their fans to be excited, however aren't calling up one of their top prospects who happens to be tearing up AAA right now. Instead, they're using their call-ups on two players with little to no big league futures. They are making incompetence an art form.

I mean, Lee is also ready to release Bleday after 130 plate appearances lol

Ng has to evaluate who to bring up next, as she can only do one thing at a time

          • Stolen Base Adjusted OPS for a guy we haven't talked about much.

            J.D. Orr: 47/54 in SBs

            .495 SLG + .365 OBP = .860 OPS

In 331 PAs between High-A, AA and AAA.

              • Braves call it best trade they didn't make. This from Craig Mish at the time: Sources indicate Braves discussions with Marlins for Realmuto include a pkg built around 3B Austin Riley & P Michael Soroka. Marlins are still listening to offers from other clubs.

The version of the trade I liked most at the time had Riley coming to Marlins with William Contreras, who has a 136 OPS+ this season.

I honestly don't want to go into the season anywhere where the solution is, if we're contending let's deal with it in July. The floor should be a playoff ready roster on paper day 1. At most, it's leaving De La Cruz on the bench and Okert as the last reliever..... or Fortes as the backup catcher, and you can get a veteran bench guy or luxury upgrade later if needed.

Next year is different for me. No more dicking around just to save money with a fringe prospect like Fortes starting. This team is going to be really good adding presumably these 4-5 last guys to the roster.
                  this didn`t age well

Didn't say a word about releasing Bleday. Merely pointed out the irony of him batting fourth while doing nothing at the plate (Brinson-like numbers). However, I would be indifferent if Burdick, Bleday, Encarnacion, J Sanchez, DeLaCruz and L Diaz were all traded for A-Ball prospects. And it hurts to think that when I was really enthusiastic about a couple of those guys.

                    • It’s very 2022 Marlins that Zac Gallen is about 18 innings away from setting the MLB record for consecutive scoreless innings thrown.

What? Did you just quote something from March?

And then ignore "This team is going to be really good adding presumably these 4-5 last guys to the roster" - which they didn't do?

                        • My dream team for 2024: Nunez at SS, Chisholm at 2B, Salas and Cappe at the IF corners, Fortes at C, Orr, Ian Lewis and Watson in the OF. The team shatters the team SB record and makes opposing pitchers very uncomfortable all game long

Congrats to Lewis Brinson and Isan Diaz, whose strong AAA performances suggest they will see more major league opportunities. Brinson got 11 ab for the Giants last week and homered twice!

I think opposing pitchers would very much like to face that team in 2024. These guys are years away from being MLB ready Lee. We're talking across the board meteoric rises for that to be the 24 team. Maybe switch that to 2026 and it becomes believable.

                            • Dreams aren't always believable. Mostly they aren't.

I will say this: the actions of stealing bases, sacrifice and get-on-base bunts, and suicide squeezes are the most aggressive plays in baseball and shout, "I want to win!"

The insane extremes in the success of pitching prospects vs hitting prospects in this organization is so wild to me. They need to figure out who is most responsible for the pitching success, and do whatever it takes to keep them; and find the culprits of the hitting failings, and replace all of them immediately.
