Also outside of the box take - and this is not to diminish the trade return. Why not take back David Price (expiring $32m contract). Muncy (expiring $13m contract +$1.5 option buyout), and Kahnle (expiring $3.75m)... which is basically taking on $17.5m this year and add Soler to that trade.
This helps Dodgers luxury tax calculation this year shedding a lot of money for them which is what is important to them, and the Marlins effectively saving (as Soler not opting out as this year)... $10m on Soler's contract longterm. Bruce has gotta spend it this year instead of over 3, but saving $10m is saving $10m. Also, I imagine you can but Muncy on waivers and get rid of the contract, or if he passes through trade him for a low end FV40 guy. Same probably with Price. Tell them both we will cut you if we can't waiver trade you 3rd week of August, etc. They can then find a bench contender role for sure.
The Marlins can then kick in a RP (or two) and Rojas/Berti/Wendle to replace Muncy.... and then add that to the top of Pablo for the prospects. Frankly, their luxury tax is crazy so this does save LAD some real money here even absorbing Soler for later.
Just an additional kicker idea for them that is mutually beneficial.

Soto and Bell headed to Padres
Gore, Hassell, Abrams, Wood and Susana to Padres, apparently Eric Hosmer going to Nationals to, but he has to approve the trade. Seems like that could be a road block. What reason would he have to go to Washington if he didn't have to?

Correa is inconsistent year to year but he has superstar potential. He has had a WRC+ of over 100 7 out of 8 years in the big leagues with superstar level highs of 136, 152, 142, and 134, all in different seasons, plus another 2 seasons of 123 and 124.
Dansby Swanson has had a WRC+ of over 98 just twice in 7 years, meaning he's been an above a average hitter 2 times in 7 years, despite hitting around one of the best and deepest lineups in baseball. His career high WRC+ would be correa's 5th best season of his career and Nimmo's 4th best hitting-wise. He is not a cornerstone talent, he is an above average SS.

It's clear they're not going to sign anyone noteworthy, though, and instead vastly overpay for guys like Garcia when they do decide to spend some couch change.

Other guys low 20s to high 30s in their range - Acuna, Devers, S. Marte, Rendon, LeMahieu, Turner, Muncy, Olson, Albies, Ketel, Merrifield. Do you not appreciate them also?
All of these guys are awesome. Nimmo has produced this while being "injured." So has Correa. Injuries are negated by a 5 season sample size. Swanson is blooming late. He's over his head with the BABIP right now, but he's a 3.5+ WAR guy.
I'd say all 3 of these guys are the 2nd or 3rd best player on the Marlins today. They are likely pretty safe 4+ WAR guys moving forward, but the last few years of their deals may drop but that's expected. I like to think they will all age gracefully with hit tools and/or defensive prowess.

If they spend that money in free agency, which they won’t, it needs to be a guy who has proven star level hitting production either lead off or in the heart of the order like Correa or nimmo

You stick him in our lineup as a 20 million dollar player and you have a terrible, expensive lineup. He becomes a .750-..800 ops hitter at best here and you’re paying him 20 million.

Do you think there is a difference between a 4.5WAR player who hits .775 OPS/great defender or .875 OPS/poor defender? Both are 4.5 WAR in this. Is one better? Everyone is 28 and all things equal with the contract.
