  • Jon Heyman again mentions the Marlins as a team linked to Schwarber in a tweet just now.

It certainly feels like they're looking to add two more quality bats. One corner OF/DH guy, and then probably a CF via trade.

    • I'm excited to hear we are not done. Another bat, and if our pitching can improve slightly, a lot of those 1 loss games could go our way, and especially if we are more healthy than last year. With some luck we could win in the low 80's and be competitive, as stacked as the division is against us, that's all I can ask - just be competitive

It's strange to me investing everything in two corner bats, but Schwarber can certainly mash and he'd be 29-31/32 on a 3-4 year deal.

Assuming one of Pablo/Sixto/Cabrera/Luzardo/Meyer turns into a longterm CF (Brandon Marsh type, etc.), and they fill out the bench/bullpen with 2-3 other respectable guys, that's a good team:

        Stallings, _____
        Aguilar/Cooper, Lewin, Schwarber
        Jazz
        Rojas, Berti
        Anderson, ____
        Sanchez, De La Cruz/Cooper
        ______
        Avisail
        (DH Schwarber)

Sandy, Rogers, Luzardo, two of Pablo/Sixto/Cabrera (Meyer AAA)
        Bender, Floro, Elisier, Pop, Head
        Bleier, Okert, _____

I mean, they have the money and assets here for Gary Sanchez(or keep Alfaro), Chris Taylor, Brandon Marsh (Pablo trade), and club controlled lefty (Call it another minors trade)

They could easily make this very exciting for us.

I wonder if they just decided they want to add as many quality bats as they can and in FA right now corner OF is where they’re going to get the best bats that won’t completely break the bank.

The last report I saw on Taylor (I want to say it was Heyman) didn’t mention the Marlins as one of the teams, and there were a lot mentioned. He might have priced himself out of our range as he’s really the only true CF worth anything left out there, and his versatility should just help his cause.

As the SS dominoes continue to fall, I keep hoping against hope Miami will sneak in there for Correa. Although obviously I don’t think there’s really any chance.

          • The moment Seager signed a 10 year / $325 million contract, I'd say the FA SS's were out.

Maybe a more probable Correa (or Story) benefit to the Marlins is the Yankees doing something and signing one of them, which could create a DJ-Correa/Story-Urshela/Andujar infield, and all of a sudden Pablo, Cooper (for their bench), and another decent arm (Neidert? Poteet? Holloway? McCambly?) turns into Gleyber and Sanchez. I feel Gleyber is a little more valuable (theoretically) than Pablo, so it's a nominal kicker going back. I don't think they care about Gary. Yankee fans all wanted Stallings.

Marlins can sort out who plays where later, but effectively someone from Anderson, Gleyber, and even Jazz (why not try in CF? This was floated in 2019 I believe?) is going to log some time in the OF, ideally some CF if at all possible. I honestly think Anderson could probably do it. He was fantastic in RF. Garcia and DLC can each dabble in CF also, so maybe CF is just a combination of everyone pitching in with a platoon guy? Getting Gleyber could be big and he has an extra year of control than Anderson and Rojas to transition to whatever is next.

I don't know, but if they got Avisail, Stallings, Schwarber, Gleyber, Gary Sanchez, a defense first platoon split CF (Margot? He gets all lefty SP days and defensive replacement when close/up in 7th?), and just lose Pablo, Cooper, longman reliever/5th SP, and non-top minor league pitching, that's a pretty epic offseason. This team is REALLY injury proofed in the field and could absorb 2-3 major injuries easily.

              Stallings, G.Sanchez
              Aguilar, Lewin, Schwarber
              Jazz, Gleyber
              Rojas
              Anderson
Sanchez, De La Cruz/Berti (Bleday AAA)
Margot (Try out Anderson and Jazz, and a little of Avisail and DLC/Berti to help)
              Avisail (Anderson)
              (DH Schwarber/G. Sanchez)

Sandy, Rogers, Luzardo, Cabrera, Hernandez/Sixto (Meyer AAA)
Bender, Floro, Pop, Head, Bass, Sixto/Hernandez
              Bleier, Okert

              • Oh Margot is still signed, but you get it. Some sort of platoon split CF and it's just an insane platoon

                • Definitely would be open to trying Jazz in CF.

And the Phillies are looking to trade for Kiermaier - that's a perfect platoon guy for CF that will cost the Marlins nothing to acquire with his contract, and they could dabble Garcia and Jazz in CF and see if something works.

It's not the CF we want, but if they got Schwarber and another bat for the infield to open up Anderson/Jazz for some OF/CF time, he makes sense.

According to baseballtradevalues.com, Torres has a surplus value of 10.8 M. Sanchez has 0 surplus. Given that Pablo has 57M surplus value, it would take about five Gleybers to equal Pablo's value! Sanchez is DFA material.

In yesterday's trade, Stallings had 8.8M surplus value. Thompson, Nicolas and Scott added up to about 9.6M.

Maybe you shouldn't look at that shitty website? Didn't they also say Buxton was valueless?

Pablo is projected for a 3.3 WAR next year, Gleyber 3.6. They have equal years of control, Gleyber is a year younger, Gleyber has less injury risk, and is a hitter. It's probably pretty close and need based if they are traded as Pablo is great, but the Marlins probably need to toss in another non-top arm that can go in their bullpen.

I think I'd rather stay away from Torres, honestly. Until the very end of the year last year, he was pretty bad at the plate, and he was even worse defensively. He's interesting because you'd be buying low, and the upside is still significant, but that's awfully risky when you're sending out the chips you're talking about.

At this point, if we're sending out big pieces, I want proven guys in return.

I feel like we’ve been talking about this exact trade scenario on this board for years.
