In a post that featured a lot of ridiculous statements, this was the most ridiculous.

Marte and Villar played an equal number of games for the Marlins last season. Their numbers were basically the same. Marte did better for Arizona, but that certainly didn't help the Marlins any - no more than Villar's performance in Baltimore the previous year. I'm just saying that it was silly to give Marte all that money this year. Look at it this way: Would any other team give the Marlins any assets in return for Marte's contract this year? The Mets need a center fielder. Astros, Cubs and Red Sox too. What kind of offer could Marte have received on the free agency market?

And why take what he did in Arizona into consideration? Nothing he did before he got to the Marlins matters.

If Marte had gone 3-4 with a HR last game of the year his numbers would've been right in line with his Arizona numbers. It's ridiculous to base your entire opinion of him on those 28 games.

            • I think Marte would've gotten something similar to what Jackie Bradley Jr. will wind up getting. Also remember there was a $2 million buyout if we had not picked up the last year.

              • "It's ridiculous to base your entire opinion of him on those 28 games." That may be true, but those are pretty much the only 28 games I've ever seen Marte play!

The Jackie Bradley comp isn't too far off, although Bradley is slightly younger, coming off a better offensive season, and is far better defensively at this point. MLBTraderumors projects Bradley to get about a 2-year contract at $8M per year. Marte therefore figures to be worth maybe two years and $13M. I would prefer to platoon Sierra and Harrison in CF and potentially develop value..

meaning you have a completely uninformed opinion on a player based on less than a month of watching him and yet you're still criticizing the front office for picking up his option?

                  • The official MLB draft order is out. The Marlins have #16 and the 1st pick of the supplemental round (#30), which not that they will, but I believe can be used in a trade.

Dictionary definition of OPINION: a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge:

I understand many believe that the only worthwhile opinion is one that agrees with their own. So goes.

Marlins have interest in bringing back RP Brandon Kintzler. Feeling is mutual, Kintzler would strongly consider a return to Miami. Other teams in play. Not imminent - although this feels like something later this month that could get done. Per sources.

It's not about it being an opinion, it's about it being an uninformed opinion based on a very limited sample size in a sport that produces wild fluctuations in extremely small sample sizes

We are in on a number of RP. They are looking at signing 2 and maybe a 3rd. They want atleast 1 CL type

Talking to a number of LHB but price is to high right now. See Carlos Santana signing. Before anyone says they are cheap-remember they really only need the bat for this year

Discussed few 3 or 4 for 1 trades but nothing serious

Likely to grab a Rule 5 guy. Looking at C and RP-hard to say whom since no clue who will be around at 16

It can but highly unlikely because #1 the pool value is like 2.7 million(it means flexibility in draft) and #2 5 years till Rule 5 draft. They are looking for guys they dont have to put on the 40 man

Marlins want to be aggressive in the draft again and 2.7 million is alot to play with

Starting next year we have a 40 man crunch so any chance they can get a guy whose younger they will
