Jayson Stark: Marlins Expected to Keep Josh Johnson
So I guess the chances of Johnson being traded are rather slim then.
Gonna depend on who gets Greinke,if Atlanta or Chicago gets him there could be a bidding war for JJ. With LAA,Texas,Toronto,Boston in on him
According to what I hear we have told teams what we want a deal to start with and it is
Texas-Mike Olt and close eyes and pick 1
Toronto-d'Araund and Justin Nicolino
LAA-Jean Segura and CJ Cron or Kaleb Cowart
Boston-Jackie Bradley and Matt Barnes
Ill just say this, the reason ESPN keeps saying 95% chance of staying is because we have told teams that if they don't start an offer with those 2 then to not even call. However if we do keep him there is a very good chance he is dealt at the Winter Meetings or at the Deadline next year.

Insiders see this
Lee-Staying(Best news for us)
Greinke-Atlanta(Due to fact willing to include young starters and Texas not wanting rental)
Dempster-LAD
Shields-LAA
Garza-Staying(Teams don't wanna pay massive price for possibly injured arm)
Liriano-Baltimore
Vargas-St Louis
This would leave Cleveland,Texas,Boston,Toronto,Chicago,Washington all needing a SP

Jesus dude fucking read a thread once and a while.
Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1
Exec who checked on Josh Johnson said believes #Marlins strategy is move now if get elite haul (unlikely), if not reassess in winter (cont)

when market similar or current noncontenders might also try or use $ saved on recent deals to add, try to win in Johnson's walk yr #Marlins

That's what I thought (regarding Greinke, Demp and Shields). Any chance TX includes both Profar and Olt?
Have you heard if they're trying to reinvest the $ they getting rid of, in the off season?
So you are saying you would rather a A 3B B+ SP and some throw ins rather than two A SP and a B SP and a throw in? I understand this isn't a dump. I am not saying just take the best deal and dump him. I'm saying that we shouldn't rule out packages because they lack a 3B. If we can get significantly more value from another team that doesn't have that good 3B to trade we should still make the trade especially if its starting pitching. We can always make a deal for the needed asset later. And with next year looking like it's being used more for evaluation and 2014-15 would be the go all in years, it makes filling the whole that much less of a necessity. We should take top value offered regardless of positional need right now.
I would personally summarily decline any offer that didn't include a longterm 3B or 2B. Doesn't necessarily need to be piece 1 (although that would be nice), but it better be a B+ piece 2. We did the free agency 2B/3B spread in other threads. Literally nothing in 2-3 years in free agency, unless the Braves don't resign Prado (can't imagine that not happening). Nothing in farm system.
I get what you are saying and the "you never have enough pitching" mantra, but Johnson is special and as much as the team needs a 3B, they need Johnson too. I don't like the idea of just "stock piling" and "we'll deal from our strength later." That is a video game mentality (no offense at all by that), not a realistic one when who knows when the type of player the Marlins need is available again. It's to complicated.
If they trade him, do it right. Get a longterm 3B/2B. Get a big arm. And get next best available thing anywhere. That's the only package that works the way I see it.

No way Texas would,in fact they wouldn't even trade Profar alone for JJ. The Texas deal would prolly be Olt,Buckel and another Top Prospect
Nope I think they are just making trades right now and find out what they got for next year. Only real thing talked about is they want the core to be Stanton,Reyes,LoMo,Boner and if u want any of them don't even call

Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick
Sources say the #Marlins are asking for each team's top 2 or 3 prospects in every trade scenario involving Josh Johnson.
...
I think this is a very fair July 27th asking price. Keep saying profar profar profar profar. Then July 31st, bet it's two of a teams top 2-4 prospects and not the # 1 guy, and a projectable third player.
Olt, Perez/Ramirez type arm, and some other guy that ranks top 5-12 in Texas system. Martin would be ideal, but that might be a bit crazy.

I'm guessing their hope is Greinke gets moved soon.

Do you think they'll deal 1 of JJ/Nolasco for sure before the deadline, given that they have Turner waiting down in AAA?

I would but the only guy we seem to actually wanna give away is Bell. All others we want good prospects for and from what I hear teams are not serious bout anyone right now

Sad because I cannot wait for the day that Nolasco is traded.
with cliff lee staying and garza having injury problems i think a team that strikes out on grienke is gonna jump in on jj and trade for him. right now its jj, grienke, and shields
