If you look at his seasons individually, I think you might see things differently. When he was in Single A, he had an .806 OPS. When they called him up, he struggled. Next season, he had an .820 OPS in Double A. Once again, struggled when they called him up to Triple A.
This could just mean he just needs time to adjust when he's called up.

rob brantly's split stats weren't very steep:
http://minorleaguecentral.com/player...963&split=3000
.283/.327/.408/.735 v.s. RHP
.262/.318/.335/.653 v.s. LHP
Seems they've been hiding him from LHP. Was left off Detroit's top 20 from John Sickel's pre season with a C rating. In regards to Flynn:
8) Brian Flynn, LHP, Grade C+: Big lefty out of Wichita State (seventh round) showed more polish than expected to go with his 90-95 MPH fastball.
Rob Rasmussen replacement it seems

If they got out of Bell, Hanley, Johnson, and Nolasco next year, that is about $50 million dollars in payroll off 2013, and another $25 off 2014.
They'd only have around $40 committed next year. They would need a starting 3B, CF, three SP, a bench outfielder, and 3 new relievers. Not including what received back in trade for those above guys.
