The more I think about this, the more I think the comment about "If he had said the same about Hitler" doesn't compare. The world is educated on the atrocities of what Hitler did. You are seeing with them how uninformed people outside of Miami in terms of what Castro has done/did throughout his regime. It's not to give a pass to Ozzie on making the comments because whether or not he was fully aware of the type of disgusting actions Castro has done they were still hurtful to a community but I do believe that a lack of all the information may have played a roll. I don't know what Ozzie's knowledge of Castro reaches but it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't know of the sort of stories that are now popping up about the struggles and violent acts that have been committed under Castro.

No, I'm saying the disconnect between how South Florida saw his comments and how the rest of the country saw his comments is what's playing a huge role here.

It's why I'm interested to see if this story of Selig and Castro meeting several years ago might resurface because shouldn't that have been something that should have infuriated more people than what Ozzie did?

A spokesman for "The Cuban Coalition" just denounced Ozzie's 5-game suspension as "token" and threatened to "take it to the sponsors." He also claimed the Marlins willfully ignored "precedents and case law" established by MLB in their 1996 handling of Marge Schott's Hitler comments.

Schott also didn't back down from her comments and was pompous beyond belief. She'd never make it with how the internet is now. It's not a good comparison at all.

What's also idiotic is a member of the "Cuban Coalition" should be bending over backwards to make the Marlins a success as the stadium could be an enormous anchor property to gentrify the area and get a ton of cash in ancillary businesses all around the stadium. Let's hurt the Marlins, which hurts little havana. Great strategy.

This if of course ignoring the context of the quote as well where it was all about staying in power and not policy/practices. He went overboard apologizing which counts for something. People are insane. I'm glad this will be over in a week or two.

I think that's where all of this dies down. The people that are boycotting the Marlins aren't the ones that spend money on the Marlins.

By the way, while watching and listening to the protestors on SportsCenter yesterday, I was embarrased to live in Miami. I had to turn it off.
