  • Yeah, it's on a bit of a delay. Probably the end of the Cigar Dave show.

    • I did not like that show.

I do like how Beinfest says "J.C. Oviedo" it's as if they are pals even though it's a new name.

Too good an arm to non tender.

A crank caller named Albert got in "Hanley is a poo eater and who'll change his diaper?" before getting hung up on.

      • ehe, that got cut off on the radio. I was driving home from getting the groceries. Albert sounded real dumb when he said something nonsensical about no-trade clauses and then said Reyes is an everyday player and then got hung up upon.

        • I'm all for diaper talk on sports radio. Reminds me of the good ole days of Herschell and Morty.

          • PITCHING SOUGHT

Beinfest said adding another starting pitcher is “a priority.” Pitchers who have been the subject of trade rumors throughout baseball this winter include Oakland’s Gio Gonzalez, the Cubs’ Matt Garza and Carlos Zambrano, Tampa’s James Shields, Houston’s Wandy Rodriguez and White Sox left-hander John Danks.

“It’s very difficult to buy pitching, to trade for pitching, but we’re on it,” Beinfest said. “Ideally, we would love to add another top-of-the-rotation starter. Whether that’s practical, that remains to be seen.”

The Marlins, who so far have been reluctant to trade starting position players, could offer a package including pitcher Chris Volstad, third-base prospect Matt Dominguez and other prospects and reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo, who has value only if he’s cleared by the U.S. government and MLB to return to the majors. Beinfest said he’s not sure if Oviedo will be available for the 2012 season.

            • If you base the market off of the Latos deal, the Marlins are going to give up the farm to get a pitcher. And they don't have anything close to the talent the Reds have (had) in their system.

              • I don't know if that's true market value. Most of the feedback seems to be overwhelming overpayment on the Reds' part (and even then, Latos isn't even in arby yet so Garza/Gio/Shields isn't a true comp either).

                • #Nationals, #Marlins, #Twins, #RedSox and #Yankees among clubs you think would be tempted to consider Oswalt on 1 yr deal

I'll take him for a contract around what Vazquez got last year. I'm still all in to trade Ricky though. If we are able to trade Ricky, Gaby, etc and when it's all set and done get a very good 2-3 guy (Gio, Garza, Shields, etc.) after it's all said and done, we would be looking great.

If we sign Oswalt, our rotation is absolutely fine as is.

                    • Oswalt would be awsome.

It all depends on Nolasco's consistency. He really only had a few terrible games, if that would've been erased his numbers would've been dramatically better.

Nolasco would be the #5, statistically; he's better than most #5's.

                          • If you take out those two games where Nolasco was shellacked for 20 runs in 3 innings, he had like a 3.8 era / 1.30 whip year in the other 190 innings or whatever.

They should keep him and simply pull him when he is having "one of those games" the 4 times a year he clearly doesn't have it.

A 3.88 ERA in ~205 innings if you take away his two really terrible starts last year.
