I would want a young and projectable SP, a young and projectable CF, a top prospect who projects to be an average starter minimum (preferably at SP, C, 3B, or 2B in that order), and a platoon/bench 3B. All controlled for 4 years minimum.

I'm not sure who has that or would give that up. I hate the idea of moving him, but if they do they have to fill all their short and longterm needs in one swoop.

      • I put quotes around Boston because as of right now they have Scutaro and Lowrie there but they could trade both.

If we're talking about dealing just Hanley, really can't see anybody giving that up. Maybe if he's coming off 08/09 we could get some premium value.

I think the market would net a young projectable SP and 1B/3B/OF (both MLB ready/1-2yrs exp), but beyond that it would only be org. filler.

I mean, you basically just named the haul we got for Miguel except a catcher instead of a 3B.

And? He is a top 3 SS in baseball (assuming another team plays him there) by a longshot, and is just starting his prime years. He's not that bad of a guy despite the media wanting to paint him as a baby, and is under a club friendly contract for 3 years. I don't care he had a down year last year. He got hurt, his July splits were back to normal (.896 OPS, 114 PA) and was turning it around, and a .275 BABIP, career .339, screams fluke. Yea his line drive rate is declining as well as his GB/FB, but he should still translate to at least a .290/.360/.475 with tons of upside.

If he wasn't off an "off year," I'd want even more. You don't win trading him. You can only mitigate your losses. They'd need a huge haul.

That's basically what the Diamondbacks gave up for Cahill, and Hanley Ramirez is considerably more valuable than that. They would get more, but I don't disagree people would "lowball" and try and call the Marlins bluff that they "want to keep him."

I expect him at 3B batting 3rd opening day and really pumped and focused.

I may have been vague when I said "young and projectable." I meant more along the top-tier of that category with some service time, i.e. my Pineda and Smoak comment. I think those two with a quality AA arm would be a good haul given current trade value.

But I still agree he's starting the season at third

Yeah, definitely shouldn't put it with Moght this time.

                          • I like the fact it says we can shift Gaby to third. As if that wouldn't have happened already if he could man the position.
