  • Fun story, he and John Buck have identical OPS+ for 2011.

    • Well he played a total of 111 innings in the field last season. Last time I checked the marlins don't need a DH.

And he can't play any defense and could potentially sign for a lot more than 6.

Is anyone really going to pay him that much and give him a starting gig though?

Maybe it could be a Luis Gonzo situation. He WOULD be a good guy to have off the bench for 2m: Switch hitter without a platoon split in his career and .814 OPS v.s. RHP last year. He is limited in position (just 1b, MAYBE COF since he should at least have an arm. And at least emergency catcher though that really don't have much value) but that's rather normal for a back up 1b.

It all depends on what ends up happening but I could certainly see a scenario playing out where if he wants to continue playing, it's on the bench. And if so, and it's not for more than ~2m, that improves us.

          • If he comes cheap, he could be this year's Ross Gload

If he came for 2m, I'd be down. I was just shielding my baby Buck from this new crazy Swift that wants to trade him for Lackey.

              • Sure, but he won't cost $2M

Someone like the Giants will give him $6-7

Or the Nationals, I hear they're in the market for a catcher

If that's the case then, could Pujols or fielder be a possibility with Reyes?

I didn't think he was being serious with that comment but I'll watch Hot Stove to see if he mentions it.

                        • If that's the case, I think Marlins become the new Heat.

But the chances of that happening are slim to none, IMO.

                          • The Marlins aren't going to become the new Heat because baseball is far superior to baseball in that you can't sign 2 guys and instantly become the best team in the sport.

I disagree. Baseball is way better than baseball precisely because of that!
