Hey, we might have to give something up for Ozzie.

Miller was out of options, though. So was Maybin. Volstad is not out of options which is usually when we trade people.
Besides, we need the depth in starting pitching and, as we've seen this year, we don't have a lot of that depth in the minors. Next year, we'll be down one more since West will be out of options (used options in '09, '10 and '11) so he's not likely to be here. With our limited depth, I don't see us moving any pitchers, especially with our supposed to be increased payroll next year.

Well, if Volstad continues to pitch this way, he's not really depth. He's just expensive garbage, considering he shouldn't be making any more than the minimum.

Actually, Miller is a great example of why we would keep Volstad. Look at how much money Andrew Miller was making when he was here on his guaranteed contract. We still kept him and even optioned him to AAA when he was making the same money regardless of where he was. Miller was even around the same age as Volstad is. It wasn't until Miller was out of options and we were stuck with him on the roster or cutting him and getting nothing for him that we traded him.
And Erick, aka Mr. WantsHandtosuck, what depth do you see in our organization? If you think this organization is going to go get 2 front line starters and about 4 top prospect pitchers to use as depth, you're crazy.Last edited by THE_REAL_MIBS; 09-04-2011, 09:22 PM.

Still doesn't mean you trade a serviceable major league pitcher when he has options and you have next to no depth in the high minors.poop

MiBs, do you just think he is cute or is he your brother? I mean what is it about Volstad that you are so blinded to his non talent.

Exciting in an "OMG this could turn out really bad or really good" kind of way.
New stadium = Nothing bad come out of this, so already it's one of the greatest offseasons ever.
New uniforms = Based on what we're hearing the new uniforms might make the Astros tequila uniforms look normal. But on the other hand, they might break the mold and be something unique and visually attractive.
FA acquisitions = CJ Wilson, Mark Buheherlelee and Co. might be headed to South Florida OR we completely strike out because of money and sign some B starter that will do absolutely nothing for our rotation.
New manager = Ozzie Guillen or Bobby Valentine might be commandeering the 2012 Miami Marlins OR Chicago asks for too much, Bobby remembers how we stiffed him and we're stuck with a manager we'll get rid of in two years. Even worse, we might trade a valuable piece on the roster for Ozzie Guillen.

Can't wait for the stadium.
The thought of our uniform alone scares me.
CJ would be awesome. Wonder what he will get, 4/55-60 or 5/65-70?
I really hope we get Bobby V here, he will push the FO to make moves. Ozzie doesn't seem like the type of character our FO tolerates.. I'm
not sure how that would end up.
