how did the sell sell sell discussion turn into a discussion of what big name starter we should trade for?Originally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

Olney's blog says the D'Backs are telling teams they're dead-set on moving Haren.
Makes me wonder a few things:
If they're moving Haren, and there's interest, shouldn't we just jump the gun amd dangle Ricky?
Considering Haren's club friendly contract, could we benefit from trying to turn Ricky into Haren a la Philly with Lee-Halladay?

I don't generally like the idea of moving Ricky, but if the DBacks are asking for an arm from the current rotation Ricky's the one to move. JJ-Haren-Anibal as the top three is still a hell of a top three and arguably as good as JJ-Haren-Ricky, and Ricky's going to be more expensive than Anibal next year, so moving Ricky frees up some payroll to take on Haren without a huge overall increase in the payroll. Then just hope that West and Alejandro can hold down spots in the rotation next year.
Problem is that the DBacks are gonna ask for someone like Logan as part of the package in addition to a SP. I wouldn't put Logan in the package for Haren, even though I'm not a huge fan of Logan. Now, if the DBacks were cool with Dominguez, and the organization's cool with playing Cogs at 3B and locking up Uggla, then maybe. I really like Dominguez, more so than Logan, but if Cogs can play 3B adequately and Uggla's staying at 2B for the next few years then Dominguez is expendable for someone like Haren.
That said, the Fish aren't even rumored to have spoken with the DBacks about Haren. But they've done weird stuff under the radar before that usually comes out later (Manny). Maybe they're doing it with Haren. But probably not.

i dont think the d-backs would be interested in logan or dominguez. They draft a good 1B/3B prospect in Borchering last year and Brandon Allen is another good one. Also Reynolds is signed very cheap (11:$5M, 12:$7.5M, 13:$11M club option) but his defense might cause him to move to other position, although he has improved this year.
And Haren has a no-trade clause, I doubt he'll accept a trade to here.
IMO we should still be sellers, unless the marlins go something crazy like 7-2 or better, and make up 3 or 4 games in the division and/or jump the mets and possibly the phiilies in the wild card. We have 9 more games till the trade deadline, against 3 really good teams (3 ATL, 4 SFG, and 3 SDP)Last edited by Fish and Chips; 07-23-2010, 12:49 PM.Originally posted by Matt WilsonFish and Chips just became the smartest man on the board
