  • Maybin could always lead off once he is healthy. Maybe Gaby moves to lead off as the organization learned OBP matters.
    --------------------
    1st maybin(emilio) or gaby
    2nd cc
    3rd hanley
    4th gaby or uggla
5th uggla or logan or catcher
    6th stanton
    7th logan or catcher
    8th maybin/emilio or catcher
    9th pitcher

doesn't look all that horrible as long as uggla is retained. Gaby could lead the league in RBIs if we bat him 4th (although thats assuming someone else can get on base).

    • I didn't realize how bad Cogs was doing in July

He's replicating his April. no walks, tons of K's, no power

Seriously can't believe just how much he's striking out this year.

For all the shit Cantu gets, Coghlan has been just as bad this year. Yeah, difference is Cantu is #4 hitter and expected to drive in runs, much like how Hanley is "sucking" to the tune of a .865 OPS, but still.

And yeah, there's the "Cantu's performance came in April and has sucked lately", but Coghlan has sucked lately too. Both of them only have one big month (Cantu's April, Coghlan's June), and the other 3 months they've been absolute shit.

      • Yeah, but Coghlan doesn't give us an opportunity to sarcastically say "Good thing all this organization cares about is RBI" everytime he is sucky.

            • Might be weirdest multiplayer trade

Like Ramp said Yanks are looking at Helms and also at Ross. They want him bad but the biggest problem about Ross is the Yanks don't wanna pay him alot as a 4th OF.

In any deal we would be looking at a Minor League RP and prospects

Also Cantu is getting some looks from the Phillies

                    • The Boston Red Sox have phoned. So have the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Philadelphia Phillies and others as the July 31 trading deadline draws near. But as the interest level remains high for Jorge Cantu, Leo Nunez and Cody Ross, the Marlins are not inclined to part company with second baseman Dan Uggla.

Part of the rationale to stick with Uggla could be financially driven.

The Marlins signed an agreement with Major League Baseball and players' union to ramp up payroll using its revenue-sharing money, and keeping Uggla in 2011 could help satisfy that. With Hanley Ramirez and Josh Johnson under contract for salary increases totaling $17.75 million next season and Uggla expected to make at least $10 million in his final year of salary arbitration, the Marlins could surround them with low-salaried players at many other positions and keep payroll about the same as it is this season -- around $45 million.

A 2011 lineup that could include first baseman Gaby Sanchez, infielder Chris Coghlan, catcher John Baker and outfielders Logan Morrison, Cameron Maybin and Mike Stanton would come at a minimal cost to the Marlins. It also would allow them to entertain the notion of not only hanging on to starter Ricky Nolasco, but also perhaps offering him a multiyear contract as they gear up for the opening of their new ballpark in 2012.

That doesn't mean the Marlins intend to keep everyone. The Red Sox have inquired about Nunez and Ross. The Braves, and perhaps the Yankees, reportedly have interest in Ross. The Rangers have asked about Cantu as a prospective designated hitter, and the Rockies are reportedly attracted to him as well.

But the Marlins haven't made a firm decision on which direction to take, buy or sell, as the deadline nears. The Marlins are probably most willing to deal Cantu and starting pitcher Nate Robertson because each is eligible for free agency after the season.

Heard this: The asking price for Cody Ross is very, very high, despite the fact that some teams view him as a non-tender candidate.

Because everyone views him as a 4th outfielder, duh

                          • Wait, they're willing to entertain the idea of offering Ricky a long term deal, but not willing to entertain the same idea for Uggla? I mean, I'm not opposed to something reasonable for Ricky, but that seems silly considering Ricky's performance this year.

And yeah, who the hell thinks Cody's getting nontendered? Drayton Moore?

                            • Maybe it's some nefarious plot by Loria to give him a contract and have him have a weird/kinda crappy year like this year and then use that as an excuse to not hand out contracts anymore.

I wouldn't put it past the FO.
