Don't disagree that if the point is spend the revenue sharing, it's irrelevant how it's spent, just so long as it's spent.
However, the issue isn't whether it helps us go from that "B" prospect to an "A" prospect, the issue, at least as Carroll frames it, is if we are begrudgingly turned into a buyer.

They could trade Ross or Cantu or whoever, and take back a bad contract along with the prospect from their trade partner. Taking back the bad contract would probably net them a better prospect, since they're relieving their trade partner of salary.

I asked Will Carroll if it meant they'd have to take on salary specifically because of the MLBPA agreement:

Can't be true, MLB can't do that. If the Marlins came to an agreement to keep salary at a threshold, I can understand the marlins being forced to pick up "Codys" salary if he is moved, but they cannot force the team to take back payroll. Only penalize with keeping their current obligations, or deny revenue sharing. I dont think this is an issue.
But it does bring up the point, if the Marlins are on the hook for Cody's salary, he becomes much more attractive to another team since they won't have to pay him except for the minimum. I understand the Marlins saying to everyone, "look we're paying for him here or there. We have his rights next year. We will keep him unless you give us "high" trade value. Don't try to bully us mother fucker, we hold the cards."
We'll see next 2 weeks. Maybe they win 10 in a row. (joke).

It would be like: Ross for super duper prospect + guy with contract equal to or greater than Cody's. It wouldn't just be Cody for a guy with a shitty contract.

Brandon Inge is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal on his left hand.
In other words, he broke his left pinkie finger. It's obviously a tough blow for the second-place Tigers. Short of moving Carlos Guillen to third base and promoting Scott Sizemore to play second, the Tigers could now be looking for an infielder at the trade deadline. Calling up Jeff Larish from the minor leagues is also a possibility.
This could be potentially good news for us.

Haha..haha... Bobby V on Baseball Tonight just said Tigers need to call the Marlins ASAP and trade for CantuLast edited by LocoMarlinFan; 07-20-2010, 12:05 AM.
