    Marlins making push for Nats 1B Johnson — 6:37 p.m.
    The Marlins are making a strong push for Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson, but the teams have been unable to reach an agreement on the players the Nationals would in return, according to a major league source.

    The Marlins have offered the Nationals minor league pitching prospects for Johnson. Among the names under discussion: righty Ryan Tucker and Aaron Thompson.

          The Marlins are making a "strong push" for Nats first baseman Nick Johnson, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The Marlins have offered minor league pitchers to the Nationals, but the sides haven't come to an agreement on which players Washington would receive. They're discussing Aaron Thompson and Ryan Tucker.

                Meh, go for broke on Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez, adn then deal off spare parts for Pavano, or don't go at all.

                Johnson helps, and he's a cool guy for hte rest of the year, but acquiring him alone isn't getting this team to the playoffs.
