yeah, but doesn't seem like they've saved money with their first 3 picks. Probably don't have the funds to sign these HS Pitchers that have slipped, right?

Nunez is the best infield defender in the class and he’s got a shot to hit from both sides of the plate. A strong first day from Miami restocking the system with upside bats.
Guy Miami wanted in Josh Smith ended up with NYY too. Will be interesting Day 2 as lots of pitching/catchers and guys that Miami likes still on the board. Only crappy thing about Day 1 is they probably didn't save any cash

Rd 3 they should be fine as slot is 750K. Bryce Osmond/Evan Fitterer/Andrew Dalquist/Kochanowicz/Cornelio/Will Rigney all will still sign for that. The value is in College SP with Stinson/Erik Miller/Cronin/Pepiot/Zeferjahn/Zach Hess

U can take any of them then College C in Rd 4 and DJ Herz or another HS arm in Rd 5 easily still as slots are still 400K

Could go DJ Herz too and save some cash in Rd 3

      • Interested to see how aggressive we'll be with these big time college bats. Or if they'll be more aggressive with Bleday than others. I would have to think straight to Clinton, at least for Bleday.

They dont have space in Clinton for these guys while Jupiter has been signing minor league FA. Wouldn't be surprising to see Bleday and Burdick start in Jupiter actually.

Clinton OF as of right now-Thomas Jones/Scott/Jerar/Bradshaw/Connor Grant (ALL except Grant are younger than Burdick) and all need AB's

Misner probably Batavia then Clinton and Nunez to GCL. Hope they are aggressive just like LY with ALL guys

Encarnacion has gotta be getting a Jupiter call up soon, don't you think? Straight to Jupiter would be a tough test for Bleday, I'd like to see it.

            • Ok so it’s apparent the front office agrees with how desperately we need power bats. Unbelievably encouraging draft thus far. Let’s get these guys signed ASAP and get rolling boys

              • would you believe we just took another college power bat?

                • So Monte, Brinson, VVM, Scott, likely Osiris, and 3 of first 4 picks in 2019 all OF. Plus Ramirez, Cooper, Sierra, Dean, etc. Maybe Anderson moving out there, developing Riddle in CF now as a super sub...

It seems to me they want to spend -0- money and have a club controlled OF for the next decade (and maybe 1B too as someone could move there).

They can't possibly commit major FA dollars to 1B/OF or longterm bullpen right now, and at most, maybe they would sign one ace SP. You presume Diaz is at 2B for years to see if he works out (and if he fails Devers, Nunez, maybe Osiris), and Anderson could move to RF as a lot of these guys are years away (plus probability some/all of Monte, Brinson, VVM struggle).

This is really lining up for spending money on a SS for sure as there is nothing for years (I believe Devers is 3 years away minimum), and then a 3B to move Anderson to RF.

I see Rendon and Didi smoke. They literally are perfect to plop on top of this. It is making a lot of sense with the pitching, and now the outfielders.

                  - - - - - - - - - -

And that was typed before they took a 4th round 1B

                  • Bleday-RF
                    Misner-CF maybe 1B
                    Burdick-CF maybe Corner OF
                    Edwards-1B
Nunez-SS who moves Osiris to CF/2B at Clinton

All College Bats with power which means 4 guys for Jupiter next year

                    - - - - - - - - - -

Something to watch is we just drafted 2 guys

                    3-750K
                    4-544K
                    or
                    1.3 Million

We might pay 600-750K(At Most) for BOTH which means we prolly have 1 Million to use right now

                    • last year they seemed to prioritize athletes and athleticism over actual baseball tools. This year seems like the opposite. I dont mind either, but i like the flexibility in strategy based upon where the system is as a whole. It is so god damn refreshing to see a draft strategy other than "lets save some money here so we can have some money to trade for the missing pieces like Cashner, Rodney, Colin Rea, Latos, etc, etc, etc."

Well, I think pretty clearly college bats were the strongest part of this year's draft, it corresponded with an organizational need and they went all in. Good to see. Wouldn't be surprised if we go big on pitching in next year's draft.

Well to be fair I think they want athletes but they have NOTHING in Jax or Jupiter and guys in Clinton are still young. Coming into draft they needed College bats for AA/Hi A and HS arms for Rookie Ball.

                          • It doesn't mean anything because it's all a crap shoot, but I really like their approach to this draft. Lots of upside, especially in the power department which is sorely needed; and two relatively safe guys in their first 3 picks in Bleday (who also has a high ceiling along with a high floor), and Nunez, who's defense probably makes him a utility guy at the very least. While Scott wasn't my favorite pick, I like the hauls from last year and this one. Hopefully they hit the lotto on some of these guys.

I really like Burdick too. I think he's going to hit and hit right away. Had a higher OPS than Bleday this year, obviously not the same level of competition, but the level of competition was better than you'd think. 17 games against teams that were in the NCAA Tournamen. Misner I think is a boom or bust guy, but he's got the tools to be a star, and at 35 that's great value.

Ya u don't expect them to hit on all the guys but nice to see them actually taking talent and having some plan. Still kinda early to tell but so far a nice draft where they got guys they needed in the system(Power Bats who are in spots they need who will "should" be ready in 2021). To make this a great draft is keep it up today and on Day 3 take some talent/gamble on guys who will sign for 125K

1 thing love about Misner is he can play all 3 OF spots or 1B and with the Nunez pick it gives Miami a kid at SS who can stick there plus moves Osiris to CF or 2B to add depth at 1 of those spots
