  • Frisaro twitter is the best. Worst beat writer in MLB-yesterday he was hyping Greene as pick and now today he's all over Bleday

    - - - - - - - - - -

Stuff is coming into focus however for us

#4-Bleday(Under slot of 6.6 to use cash on HS guys)
    #35-Nasim Nunez
#46-? I would look college bat like Matt Wallner/Toglia/Wendzel/Mendoza/Josh Smith
    Rd 3-Valdes/Doughty/Herz?

Marlins have 13,045,000 and can go to like around 13,600,000 I think

    Slot
    #4 6.664 Mill Bleday[6.3]
    #35 2.1 Mill Nunez[2]
    #46 1.617 Mill College Bat [1.5]

If plays out right after Day 1 then Marlins could have 1 Million to play around with(Not Counting 250K they probably will save in Rds 8-10 on College Arms/Seniors)

Rds 3 and 4 the slots are above 500K which means could save some cash there too(Rd 4 I mean)

    • News that could affect us came out last night. Baltimore is looking at Vaughn and Bleday instead of Adley. While some think "smokescreen" remember that Baltimore's new FO is from Houston where they never took the best player but took 3-5 guy and saved cash for later in the draft

      - - - - - - - - - -

If we wanna "save cash" the name to watch is Hunter Bishop. Bishop is pretty much JJ Bleday-6'5 210 LH Power Bat who can play RF/1B but also CF. He is also 1 year younger than them both. Thing is can save even more cash for later if we get him instead

      Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 60 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55

The younger brother of Mariners outfielder Braden Bishop, Hunter was an intriguing yet inconsistent prospect coming out of the Northern California high school ranks, one who headed to Arizona State rather than sign with the Padres, the team that took him in the 24th round of the 2016 Draft. For his first two years, Bishop showed glimpses of tools, but with the same issues that plagued him as a prepster. His junior year, however, has been a revelation, and he's put himself near the top of the college bats eligible to be drafted.

Bishop's transformation came soon after he returned from his stint in the Cape Cod League, showing a new stance and rhythm at the plate during fall ball he has stuck with since. The left-handed hitter has always had tremendous raw power, but there have been questions about his ability to hit enough to tap into it. There will be some swing and miss, but he's shown bat speed, strength and loft consistently, with majestic home run power to his pull side, but also the ability to drive the ball to all fields. He runs very well for his size, regularly recording plus times down the line. That speed works in center field, with many scouts thinking he can stick there, even though this is the first time he's played there full-time.

The only negative at all with Bishop now is a lack of a track record of success. His ability to stick to his gameplan consistently this season, to go along with his natural tools, has nearly everyone believing it's for real, lining him up for an early first-round selection.

      - - - - - - - - - -

Faves are still Bleday/Vaughn but Bishop is darkhorse. Seem to have settled on passing on Abrams and drafting Nunez or another HS SS at #35

      • Draft morning mocks:

        MLB:
        4. Marlins: JJ Bleday, OF, Vanderbilt

Bleday appears to be the top choice but there could be a spirited debate if Vaughn got here. Abrams and Florida area outfielder Riley Greene are the high school options.

        Keith Law:
        4. Miami Marlins: J.J. Bleday, OF, Vanderbilt

I think the Marlins would even take Bleday if Vaughn were here. Rutschman might be the only name that could change their minds.

MLB.com mentions what TJ said, that there is now more chatter of the O's looking at Vaughn or Bleday. For now, it seems like if Belday is there, he is the likely target.

A negative on Bleday is Boras is his agent and on Vaughn is he is stuck to 1 position. If Bleday is there at #4 he is the likely pick but if he isn't maybe Adley falls or we go Bishop and save cash. Alot of chatter about Balt or CWS and Bleday however today

            Balt-Bleday or Vaughn?
KC-Witt Jr(Talk is they have a deal with him already)
            CWS-Adley/Vaughn/Bleday/Abrams/Baty?

            • I mean it's real simple, there are 3 guys. Adley, Bleday and Vaughn. If 2 or the 3 guys are taken you take the one that's left.

Simple part is they have narrowed it to College Bat. I keep hearing they actually like Hunter Bishop MORE than Vaughn due to fact he can play 4 positions and would be cheaper

I am with u I take whoever is on the board at #4. If its Adley u take him! If its Vaughn u take him!

Remember they probably have deals with guys in later rds already too. This is what happened LY-Liberatore and Gorman fell but they werent sure the price and didnt wanna go over slot because had deals set up with Osiris and Banfield. Probably have stuff lined up with Nasim Nunez,Herz,Valdes

Hardly simple. I'd go with Hunter Bishop and save a few bucks. He can do what Bleday does ... and runs faster too. All being relatively equal, I'd prefer the better athlete.

How long is this organization going to scared of Boras clients? Who cares who the agent is, just take him if he's the best available player.

Scared that Boras goes back on word.He says 6.3 Million but now that Baltimore is sniffing that could go up to slot or higher

Saving a few bucks shouldn't even be in the conversation, We need to win, and we need to win as soon as possible, take the best player. Hunter Bishop is a very good player, I'd even put him in the same category of the 3 guys I mentioned, but for me, give me the best player from the best league in the country. The SEC is going to have 6 of the Super Regional participants. PAC-12 has yet to get a team in, although they have 2 teams left playing today trying to get in.

Well Bleday is better but Bishop can play CF and is year younger. But ya both a power LH Bats and Bishop saves cash

If u wanna draft the BPA later in the draft it should be. Example u take Hunter Bishop at #4 and in Rd 8 instead of taking a guy for slot or college senior to save cash u can take HS P DJ Herz with some of that pool cash

With that said I am with u I would take Bleday/Vaughn or Adley but the FO is thinking hard at what I just mentioned

                            Comment

                            • Then again, if NL adopts the DH in a year or two, the Marlins could have themselves an Edgar Martinez by taking Vaughn! That's the both the fun and the challenge of the draft.
