Almost Monteverde-like! I'm guessing that Monteverde gets the call to Jacksonville first. Perez is on a tight rein, having pitched no more than five innings in any start this season.

    • jacob berry seems to stink. hitting .118, OPS of .367, 19 k's, just 2 walks. Maybe stop taking these "advanced college bat only" guys. Didnt work with moran, bleday, and now berry.

almost, except for throwing like 10 mph harder and being 5 years younger

Yea but Scott, Misner (52% whiffs in AAA this year so far!), and Banfield suck too, as well as VVM sucks from the international guys. Bleday though is raking AAA right now.

Maybe they should draft all pitchers and catchers for their first 7-8 picks and just expect to always trade for bats for a few years.

those guys weren't all bat advanced supposedly fast rising prospects though. scott was a toolsy guy they hoped develop into yelich. Misner was a college bat who fell in the draft because his last year in college was mediocre. Banfield was always glove first and never developed the bat. I'm talking these guys they keep taking in the top 10 who are all bat, supposedly polished college hitters with no real defensive upside so when the bat fails, they fail.

Berry was so clearly colin moran 2.0 to me. And it looks like that might even be a little much for what he actually appears to be.

            • Monteverde with 10 K and 0 W in six innings tonight.

Nasim Nunez is the perfect small ball player ... takes (more like makes) lots of walks with great eye and patience. Steals bases at will.

About to make this same post. I saw the run Monteverde gave up as well it was two cheap hits and a 1st and 3rd double steal.

but for the love of God Lee it’s BB for walks. ( base on balls) W is win.

                • Nunez .424 OBP 7/7 in steals.

He's not the perfect small ball player because he still is striking out too much (23% of PAs so far this year) but there is a lot to like.

                  • Teammate Troy Johnston on Monteverde: “It’s incredible,” said Johnston. “When I was facing him in spring training – whenever I would see I was facing him – I almost would give my at-bat up, because I did not want to face him. That is how good he is. He is showing what he is capable of and he is an absolute bulldog on the mound.”

Nunez over .800 OPS. He's a player fans would actually show up to watch.

                        • Luis Palacios started the season at AAA. He threw strikes, but they were struck ... to the tune of a 5+ ERA. He got dropped all the way down to A+ ball yesterday, where he recorded the best Beloit start of the year.

Barry Jackson mentioned Monteverde. There is a 0% chance Barry Jackson knows about a random Marlins arm unless someone in the organization mentioned it to him.

Tick up the excitement from a 2 to a 4 (out of 10) for me. I still want to know what the slider is tracking as.

Yes but the BABIP normalized for him also to his career rates. Which is great. He isn't overachieving today.

JP walked 5% for his career and hit .295. If Nasim can do .260 / 10%, it's effectively the same thing if he's going to be that much of a base path terror and play above average defense. Especially if he does land at SS and not 2B (there are some scouting reports that say his arm strength is just fair and may be better at 2B, etc.).

MLB Pipeline gives a 65 rating to the Nunez arm ... much better than fair. Devers has been playing SS ... though I don't know why he's playing at all.
