  • Holy shit. I'm stunned.

Regardless, $9 mil is nutso. I'd take Boni for a 1/4 of the price, anyday.

        • Yoenis thinks Cuba is bad? Wait till he sees Oakland!

          • Wow, I'm in shock about this.

Oh well, on to the next one.

#Marlins wanted Cespedes but fact he wanted a shorter deal with A's was a factor. Marlins weren't going $9 mil a yr

              • In Miami, Cespedes would have remained Cuban. In Oakland, he's a black Mexican.

                • At that price it's a blessing that he signed elsewhere. Hopefully they repackage the funds into Soler.

Does anyone get the sneaking suspicion that the offseason (to the bandwagoners) peaked a little early? Great PR for the beginning of the meetings and then losing out on four big signings by various reasons, including a Cuban defector.

I think it'll all wash over if that's the case by April 4th, but I wouldn't be shocked if that's the story for a couple weeks.
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

                    • I think $9m is way too much, but hey congrats to him.

Soler seems crazy to me too. Cubs are already offering $27 mil. I mean, that's more than Strasburg/Harper combined. If they want to reallocate the money, please send it to the draft.

                        • I'm fine with him signing elsewhere, especially given the price it took to get him, but Samson really came out looking like a fool/troll on this one.

                          • I agree with Juanky. Succeeding early and failing late (on the two we were viewed as the "front-runner") creates an easy narrative for such a skeptical market.

With the new cba thats pretty much out of the question.

Katz said Cespedes' decision about more than $. "Basically, this was a player who felt like this club wanted him more than anybody else."
The circularity is hilarious. How could you tell they wanted you more than anybody else, Johannes? "Well, uh, they, uh, offered me more money."
