Hes a midwest guy. He lived his entire life there. Raising his family there. Still lives just outside of St. Louis, where he grew up. He gave the White Sox every opportunity to make a competitive offer. Has stated many times the Cardinals are his desired destination. Has a history of taking flat market or even less just to stay in the midwest.

There was no reason to think he would even consider the Miami Marlins. He had no ties here. He was obviously content to stay where he was at. It was out of left field. I am still shocked he ended up in Miami because it was so unexpected. I am just glad the Sox and Cardinals obviously didnt care about acquiring/keeping him. Their indifference is our gain.
