agreed, but Prince is entering his prime and will likely sign a deal with shorter years

    • There hasn't even been any speculation about what deal Prince is getting offered or wants. There has been barely any buzz around him.

      • Yeah, Prince will probably get a 5+ year contract, himself.

        • Until Pujols signs you prolly won't hear much on Prince.

          • So we sucked all this time so that we could get all these guys in the big free agent offseason of 11-12.

Makes sense in more than one way why you'd connect me to Fielder>Pujols.

              • The Cardinals have yet to modify their January proposal to Albert Pujols, writes Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. That was a nine-year offer worth about $22MM per year, so only eight years remain if the offer is still valid. Strauss believes the offer included significant deferred money, as does the Marlins' current nine-year proposal. The Cubs' interest in Pujols is viewed skeptically, while the Blue Jays are "believed a potential player."

The Marlins and Cardinals are expected to meet with Pujols' agent Dan Lozano today, writes Strauss.

                • Deferred money? That's kind of interesting from our perspective. Shouldn't we be trying to front-load this deal as much as possible?

                  • frontloading only makes sense if you believe that we'll have crazy money flowing this year and a huge drop off thereafter.

                    • Back-loading only makes sense if you think we'll have crazy revenues in 5 years.

We have quite a few players, including Stanton, Anibal, and then either Gaby/LoMo or Gio, who will be due for rather significant pay raises in the near future. Front-loading a contract makes more sense for the team financially because it allows us to pay Pujols like three kings for the next couple of seasons. Once the Stanton and co. bills come due, we'll have the salary relief from paying Pujols like merely 1.5 kings to devote to them without watching payroll sky rocket to 160 M.

                          • Marlins hotly pursuing Pujols
DALLAS — Marlins officials on Monday afternoon met with the agent of slugger Albert Pujols.

                            Miami clearly isn’t done shopping.

For a couple of hours, Marlins executives met with agent Dan Lozano regarding Pujols.

The Marlins are making a strong push for the slugger, and seem willing to up their original nine-year offer made a few weeks ago.

After locking up Jose Reyes on a six-year deal on Sunday night, the Marlins attention turned quickly to the Cardinals first baseman, who is testing the free agent market.

Pujols visited the Marlins new ballpark and met with team officals in mid-November.
