  • I'd really like to see them keep Rojas around, especially now that it looks like both our future 2B and SS are both left-handed. Honestly, 2021 bench could be guys currently on the roster. Cooper, Ramirez, Rojas, Sierra, Backup C, Lefty Pinch-Hitter. Probably not the thriftiest route, but we should have money to spend even if we get Cole.

He's the perfect bridge to Jazz and controlled next year. He'll be back.

They'll need to sign a veteran 2B/SS backup and a corner OF bat on 1 year deals in 2021, but that's not a big deal.

      2021 bench
      Wallach/whoever
      Cooper/Diaz (whoever isn't playing)
      Veteran 2B/SS
Veteran OF who can hit, so you're not carrying two of these next guys as they aren't that good....
      Ramirez/Brinson/Sierra/Dean < -Pick 1 and wait for Bleday/Sanchez/VVM

If we are confident Rojas holds up, I'm 100% in on a 2/$10 extension. He's going to cost $4.5-5 in arbitration next year so why not? I wouldn't go past that in case Devers is ready in 22. That buys some clubhouse good will also taking care of him.

I wonder how soon Keith Law edits this to he sucks:

      38. Jazz Chisholm, SS, Arizona Diamondbacks

Coming out of spring training, I expected Chisholm to perform well enough to jump into the top 20, but he got off to a rocky start in April and May, striking out too often (not shocking) and not doing much on balls in play (very shocking). He has been better the past few weeks, and it's not as if his electric bat speed changed. Even with his lousy start, he's second in the Southern League in homers with 17, behind a player three years his senior, and is still a 70 runner who has the hands and quickness to be a plus defender at short if he keep his body under control. I still think he's going to be a star, but he might be a year behind where I thought he was in March.

      • Rays fans in complete meltdown at how the Astros got better players for lesser prospects, and they didn't even get Stroman for their guys. Love it.

        • I hope they claim Luis Gohara

#Braves pitching prospect Luiz Gohara will miss the entire season after having shoulder surgery. The arthroscopic procedure was characterized as a clean-out/exploratory operation, to alleviate soreness he's had since spring training. No significant tissue damage was discovered.

Had surgery a few weeks ago. Out for the year but it was nothing major. Turned 23 today. Why not?

We had a REAL good trade deadline. It would be asking way too much to beat the Twins tonight

                    • Do the Marlins be jerks and call up Diaz 15 days into next year? It’s a year of service time.

                      Just saying

They most definitely should be. It might be a jerk move, but it's one you have to do until MLB cuts the loop hole. I remember the Cubs doing it with Kris Bryant and nobody really even remembers that anymore.

                        • Law is pretty high on the trade for the Marlins:

One of the more shocking moves of the day was Arizona's trade of perhaps their top prospect, shortstop Jazz Chisholm, to the Marlins for pitcher Zac Gallen. Chisholm is electric on all sides of the ball -- he has incredibly quick hands, he's at least a 7 runner, and he's erratic but rangy and quick at shortstop, with the potential to come into a lot of power as he continues to fill out. He is raw at the plate, more so than I realized coming out of a successful 2018 campaign; he's hit just .204/.305/.427 this year as a 21-year-old in Double-A (young for the level) with a strikeout rate of 33.8 percent. If he's coming out of college into the draft right now -- he's the age of a junior and won't turn 22 until February -- he's a top-15 pick, and even that is speculative because we almost never see college position players with his kind of tools and athleticism; George Springer might be the last comparable such draft prospect. The Marlins must be ecstatic to get this kind of upside.

The Diamondbacks did get a major-league starter in return and Gallen has been really good so far in the big leagues, although with a lot of points that make it seem unsustainable. He works with big spin on an average fastball, so it plays up as his best pitch, as well as an above-average changeup and two fringe-average breaking pitches. He's had trouble throwing strikes in the majors this year, with his 12 percent walk rate the worst of his pro career by a wide margin, and his .259 BABIP isn't going to last. The Diamondbacks must see something they can alter here to make him more than a back-end starter, justifying giving up one of their best prospects, someone with top-20 overall potential if he can improve his approach and convert that bat speed into more contact.
I'm on board with this move. It could look bad in a few years, but you're parlaying a guy who's been really impressive, but is probably a good #3 SP for a potential star at a premium position. Those are the types of gambles I'm all for.

As for the second deal, it's hard for anyone to dislike that one. Sanchez was a legitimate centerpiece for a Realmuto deal in the offseason, and they get him now for a solid reliever, and a pitcher who was just bumped out of the starting rotation. On top of that, they get a good reliever back.

I've been critical of this front office, but they seem to be on a roll right now, and I like their approach. They have thought outside the box in order balance out the farm system that was very pitching-heavy. Now, they're outfield-heavy, but when some of these other guys get closer, they could take a similar approach to fill whatever holes that present themselves at that time.

                          • Not sure I love the gallen deal but getting Jesus Sanchez and essentially giving up nothing but a relief pitcher we got for nothing in the offseason is unreal. It is also abundantly clear from the last few days how high they are on their pitching prospects. I love Jesus Sanchez

Rojas will be here until at least July 31,2020 if not whole season. Jazz wont be ready till then

O Keith Law will have him sucking by 2020 list. Law hates Miami

Dont forget next year rosters are at 26(13 have to be pitchers)

Sierra is out of options and will likely be the #26 guy to start in 2020 but if he sucks then a Brian Miller or IF/OF UT guy

Luiz Gohara AND Oscar De La Cruz got DFA-Miami has the #1 Waiver Claim spot too

Question is IF anyone knows-Are DFA trades still allowed after 8/1 or what? If not we should put in claims for both of them as we would get BOTH
