That’s probably unfair. I think you’d like to see him a year younger

I'd think Vallimont should at least get a FV35 reference as they have name dropped him before, I'm not surprised about those other two. Poteet isn't really screaming up any prospect boards not even whiffing 6 guys per 9 in AA. Encarnacion is way old for his level.
He is 21 in Low A nothing wrong with that at all.

To be a prospect it is usually(age start of season)

      Low A-21(unless drafted year before)
      Hi A-22

Good results at every level, at least deserving of a spot in your top 30 prospects.
I don't put much stock into the draft round unless you're a first rounder (Dunand and Nelson were 2s and they stink? Thomas Jones is horrible?). I just find it hard to project a guy whose whiffs likely decrease at upper levels and that many balls in play is going to be a bad thing. I don't think he should crack the top 30 unless he starts exhibiting some traits of getting guys out at upper levels.

The new FG top 25 (move Cooper out, I dont think he qualifies anymore and not sure why they left him there) seems right even if we all would personally move a guy up or down among that group. Personally, I'd have to put guys like Fortes, Vallimont, Jerar, Soriano, and all the Keller/Eveld reliever types who if they get any control, turn into (at minimum) Tayron or Brice pretty quick (not great relievers, but they are MLB quality arms for 2nd/3rd division bullpens with some hope). I'd bank on a control improvement versus a fastball improvement basically.

Hope I'm wrong though and he's good. Really splitting hairs once you get outside the top 20 though as most of those guys will never make it and we'll forget about them in 3 years. Look at the 2015 top 30. I've legitimately forgotten about a bunch of these guys - http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=mia

        • watching how the current front office attacked the draft with a smart, well prepared plan makes me infuriated at just how bad, cheap and unprepared our previous drafts under the old regime were

Also Gary Denbo went on mishs podcast. Looking forward to listening to that and his thoughts in the draft

          • Fun fact

Marlins have given up least runs in NL East. 10th overall in baseball with the scary bullpen and no Sixto, Gallen, Neidert, and the rest of the relievers coming

            That is insane

                • what is urena's injury? We put him on the 60 day that quickly for a lower back strain? Only thing i can think of is that we are trying to clear a 40 man spot for gallen, but dont we have a bunch of other guys we could DFA to do so?

guess we cleared a spot for yadiel rivera. thank goodness he's back, herrera had no competition for most useless hitter on the roster. Gonna be a 3 way battle for worst guy on the roster between rivera, herrera, and chen.

Yea 60 day IL is brutal. So much for that.

Seems like a spring training trade next year once he proves some health. The silver lining is this will keep his arbitration tender down by probably at least $1.5 million and he'll probably be renewed for around $3.5 million, and then cost maybe $5 something next year. Some team will probably be interested in a backend SP with a little upside for 2/$8+.

They aren't getting shit at the deadline unless Castro goes on a tear

Prado is also going on the IL for.....wait for it.....a hamstring injury. I thought Rivera was replacing Prado. This move for Urena leaves another spot open, right?

I'd enter Starlin Castro into that competition. Rather depressing to see his name in the four spot every day ... or to see it at all.

                          • I'm seeing a DFA in Urena's future. The Marlins' favorite transaction. He gon get Dietrich'd.

                            • id think theyd just move him to the bullpen before dfa'ing him but it is the marlins.

Or just keep him til spring and trade him for a bat then. its a lower back injury and not an arm or shoulder injury so that's positive. With 2 years left after this he is still a good #4/5 rotation option.

Well, that's the big question, as we've talked about, this off-season is the time to start spending money. Will they still be penny-pinching like they were this past off-season?
