  • Dont look now, but we have 4 former marlins SP prospects in the early top 20 in WAR for pitchers- Castillo is 7th, German is 15, Williams is 17th, Paddack is 18th. In those deals we got Dan Straily, Martin Prado and David Phelps (got us Pablo Lopez), a front office pitching guru who lasted 2 years, and Fernando Rodney's legendry marlins career. We also through in guys like Austin Barnes and Kike Hernandez into deals when they could have used quality depth like those guys rather than trying to win now yet again for a bad team by going after Dan haren and Dee.

Don't forget lefty relievers Hand and Andrew Miller - two of the best in baseball.

I was fine with them letting Miller go at the time they did and never in a million years did i think hand would become anything. He couldnt throw a strike for us.

My only issue with our pen is the ages. U guys realize most of them are already 27 or older-Anderson turns 29 in July. Same with our upper minors most of them are above average for the level

Old means the team gets their prime years for minimum wage. That's a good thing (for ownership).

Not entirely fair as Prado did give them 2 excellent seasons before getting hurt and some of those deals made sense (on paper) at the time, but Paddack absofuckinglutely shouldn't be there and that's my main problem. I don't fault them for the rest, but Paddack is atrocious.

Richards, Pablo, and Caleb are really helping taking the sting away though. You can probably also say Neidert and Gallen looked undervalued in their deals, and maybe Yamamoto works out. Just hope all those guys work out as trading Urena and 1-2 of them to teams needing young, cheap SP is going to be a windfall.

This is an unpleasant thought. Opposing pitchers would love it, though.

                      • #Marlins TV ratings on Fox Sports Florida are up +6% over last year's average through 24 games, per FSF.

In 2018, team drew a 1.08 rating for the season, which translates to roughly 18,000 viewers per game.

This tidbit blew me away. 18,000 TV viewers per game? Honestly, I would have guessed the number at 5 or 10 times that. I can't see much of a TV contract coming off those numbers.

I have read that ratings don't actually play much of a role in these contracts. The deals are usually long (10-15 years) and ratings are cyclical based on team performance. Live sports are valuable content.

Only if someone watches. Ad revenue for the networks is based on numbers of viewers.

And what exactly is their other option? Fishing shows?

+6% this year translates to roughly 19,000 per game.
