  • Lots of crying about giving away Luis Castillo and Chris Paddack and Trevor Williams in recent years, but Domingo German belongs near the top of that list. https://www.fishstripes.com/2014/12/...t-jones-salary

With little doubt, the Marlins had one of the best rotations in baseball ... if only they held on to them.

Domingo German turned into Pablo Lopez so kinda a wash

The thing that hurts most is they traded 3 SP for NOTHING left on the team

      • Ya, the German trade was for Prado and Phelps. German is a solid pitcher but that move isnt in the top 10 of terrible moves they made.

do you think the pirates front office laughs to themselves at times thinking they got a solid mid rotation guy in Trevor Williams for a 60 year old man that was with the marlins for like 2 years?

        • No flexibility from Mattingly. With the off day last Monday, Caleb Smith could be pitching in Cleveland this afternoon. I would have moved Alcantara to the BP for the week and skipped his turn. It would have been a good opportunity to see how Sandy fares in a relief role ... which seems to be his destiny (to me). I want Smith on the mound as often as possible.

          • According to fangraphs our rotation as a 3.0 WAR already and their FIP's are very impressive. 2.51, 2.51, 2.81, 3.79, 4.39. And that's with another wave of 10 SP's in the minors that should be coming up within the next 2-3 years.

              2020 Minors SP
              AAA-Gallen,Neidert,Elieser,Yamamoto,Sixto
              AA-Rogers,Garrett,Stewart,Cabrera,Holloway,Puckett
              Hi A-Vallimont,Roberson,Mejia,Guerrero,Soriano,Braley,2 019 Draft Pick
              Lo A-Givin,Palacios

NOT counting trades of 8 guys this year and tons of RP who could be 5th SP/LR(Brigham,Beggs,Dugger,Mills,Hock) or CL(Guzman,Smith,Eveld,Aiello,Stevens)

Should also mention we have a glut of RP. They could trade Steck,Conley,Romo and be fine from ML to Hi A with replacements

8 guys-Castro,Prado,Walker,Grandy,Romo are gone next year. Rojas,Steck,Conley can be had too

              • I wouldnt mind if we dealt some of this pitching for some long term hitting

                • MLB Pipeline ranks the pitching prospects as follows: Sanchez, Neidert, Garrett. Cabrera. Guzman, Holloway, Rogers, Yamamoto, Gallen, Stewart, Brigham (that's 11). I'd be curious as to how forum participants rank them. Who are starters vs relievers? Right now, my starter list is topped by Gallen and Stewart, with this juror still out on Sanchez (but hopeful). Elieser Hernandez deserves consideration in the top group as well. Vallimont should rate a promotion to Jupiter in the next month. Still watching Beggs.

The quickest route to respectability will be using excess pitching as trade bait for high ceiling position players. Let's face it, the Greensboro, Jupiter, and Jacksonville lineups need massive upgrades.

It's too early for that, but it's very encouraging.

Their only move should be Urena, Steckenrider, Conley, and Romo at the deadline if this holds up. Some guys are going to blow out arms and fail, so it's just the older guys. You can easily trade them in 2 years when they have 3-4 years of service time left.

                    • Id rank those starters as Sixto, Neidert, Garrett, Gallen, Rogers, Holloway, Stewart, Yamamoto, Cabrera.

Guzman ends up as reliever, brigham isnt a prospect.

Ya, the clear move i've thought of thus far is urena before the deadline. Gallen is ready and if we can get a bat lets do it. Urena can help a team.

I wouldn't mind if we dealt guys period. We keep asking for unrealistic deals

They missed out on Bearclaw,Steck and Conley LY by asking for crazy prices. Baltimore tried to get Straily LY and we asked for Austin Hays in return then they tried again this offseason and we asked for millions in IFA.

Teams have called on Urena,Rojas,Conley,Steck already and have heard the prices are sky high AGAIN

Guzman and Brigham are RP. Probably move Roberson and Vallimont into that Top group as well

                        • It's entirely possible we have a rotation next year with 5 guys who are all at least average major league starters with the ability to be more as well as all who are making the major league minimum if we deal Urena and slide Gallen or Neidert in there.

It's not even May. Our prices SHOULD be high right now.

                            • NYY have called on ALL of our guys already to figure out prices and heard the price on Urena and Rojas were nuts

Smart play is to trade Urena and call Elieser or Gallen up. Remember we have 40-60 million to spend and James Paxton is a FA

This is not in any order of upside, more of probability in my mind.

Starters - Sixto, Pablo, Neidert, Garrett

Maybe starters - Ca. Smith, Richards, Alcantara, Gallen, W. Stewart

Relievers - Guzman, Cabrera, N. Anderson, Holloway, Rogers, Guerrero, Ferrell, Elieser, Quijada, Brice, Kinley, Yamamoto, Brigham

Garret is really years away, so they really just need half of the other 8 to work out by 2021, with Sixto or Alcantara realizing their potential, and one other guy turning into at least # 3.
