And this is the problem I have with Mike Hill, either he's a terrible general manager or he's a fucking yes man, with no balls to challenge his boss. There is no in-between he's either one or the other.

Give me a GM who actually has a vision and plan for the team. If Denbo's that guy, give him the title. I'm sick of Mike Hill - GM who is only rolled out to talk to the media.

he was a yes man who had no choice but to be a yes man. he has a vision and plan for the team and he has explained it several times, most recently in a 1 hour podcast with mish a month back.

I disagree with this, not sure what else I can say.

You disagree because your option would be for him to just quit his incredibly high paying job for a front office job that he likely wouldnt be able to get anywhere near the salary or high profile job. Thats incredibly easy for you to tell him to quit his job, forfeit his salary, and uproot his family and then not get a job nearly as high profile or high paying elsewhere. Plus Loria gave him a huge contract extension before he left I believe.

How can you say this, and also argue that he's a good GM? He's a good GM that has very little power, and no other teams in the league view him as a good GM, but fish16 knows better. OK

That contract extension Loria gave him is the biggest proof that he was a Loria yes man. "You've overseen 0 winning seasons. I'm going to give you a 5-year extension to make it more difficult for the next owners to get rid of you."

            • Can we mention they drafted two MVPs, likely the best pitcher of the generation who would have won multiple cy youngs at minimum, drafted the best catcher of the generation?

I mean, Loria is an asshat as this team should have at minimum Paddack still, but I think we need to check the scoreboard here of some major peaks and valleys. Hill has been involved in these things.

I'm just saying, I'm not thrilled with what's happened with the organization, and Hill should be scrutinized, but I'm not casting all stones at Hill. I think it's fine to have him on board with other voices (Denbo) in the room. And honestly, absent the Brewers debacle, everything has made sense to me on paper for the most part. Sure they need another CF, but that's not really that big of a deal.

All i'm saying is all indications are that loria gave him a ridiculous contract extension and that its a lot easier to say yes then give up that salary, because thats what happens when he quits. Especially if he had an indication Loria would sell soon. I just think we're obviously gonna keep him to start this new regime and im willing to give him a chance given that I think he's done a good job in a lot of trades since loria said he was going to sell.

Phelps trade got Lopez. Ozuna got Alcantara and Gallen with Sierra still out there. Dee trade got Neidert and Dugger. Got VVM with an owner willing to spend on IFA. Stanton is a wash cause that wasnt really a baseball move. Yelich trade is the one that looks obviously bad so far but we'll see after this year. Wish we just could have stopped the rebuild after the stanton trade and kept Yelich and hoped JT re-signed when he saw the pitching develop.

                    • If you want to gouge your eyes out go look at the numbers for Luis Castillo, Chris Paddack, and Trevor Williams thus far this year. Who we got for Dan Straily, Fernando Rodney, and a front office person who is no longer here.

Understatement....I may have been off with my 35 win prediction by a year (just kidding fish16), but this team looks like it will struggle to win 55

                          • ya the offense is truly horrendous. they desperately need to attack the draft IFA and free agency for hitting the next few years

Small sample size yes but so far, 12th in HR's in the NL, 15th in RBI's, 15th in walks, 12th in hits.......again small sample size but does anyone expect these numbers to vastly improve ? And yes we all know they were supposed to stink this year, but c;mon Jeter this is not fair to the fans who do pay money to see them....reduce the ticket prices is I think necessary....you shouldn't have to pay MLB prices for a AAA team.

I feel really sorry for the vendors at Marlins Park.....also for Severino & Holly.....there is only so much sugar coating you can do, and sometimes their commentary can be cringy in trying to defend the franchise. They clearly can't be really happy here.

                              • Starlin Castro stopped hitting...

Lewis Brinson never learned to hit....

Miguel Rojas is a major league backup not a starter...

Jose Alfaro is a league average catcher so that's not all that bad...

Outside of that everybody else in the lineup is 100 years old.

I wasn't joking Day 1 saying this is the worst lineup the Marlins have ever put out and that those 1998-2001 lineups are quite the reverse treat.
