  • Guess Marlins were right. As I said a few times they had a JT to Cincy deal done until physicals. Hunter Greene could NOT pass it and the deal was cancelled. Well now he is getting TJ

unless a miracle happens we are fucked....it seems we never get a benefit of the doubt from the umps.....it's almost as if Manfred has put out an order that if it's close screw the Marlins.
you think you are in my thoughts significantly more than you actually are

That seemed inevitable. We didnt exactly take the epitome of health though in sixto.

True but least Sixto passed the physical. That was Greene's issue

          • first 5 games our starters have only allowed 4 walks, 1 off the league low. And 2 of the other 3 teams with only 3 walks have played less games. Encouraging start from the rotation. Funny that I see Urena pitching tonight and its like a disappointment

I would wait until the end of the year. I don't think he's moving the needle. You can get someone like him in free agency every year.

              • I just listened to the SNY call of that play, and I think they were even more convinced that Lagares was going to be called out than our announcers were.

He will be dealt by the deadline. Like Frisaro mentioned teams want him but issue is they are offering nothing right now(heard low level guy or 2). Could see a Maybin type deal offered eventually-MIF mid level prospect and IFA cash which Miami will jump on. Bryson Brigman is waiting in the wings to be 2020 UT guy

I would try to steal Thairo Estrada from NYY for him or Cleveland for a Clement/young arm

I predict the same for Sixto Sanchez this year.

Prediction: Rojas is with us all season, and released in the off-season instead of paying him the $4.5 million next year.

Also, I like Brigman, but the dude has 42 ABs above A-Ball, but we're already penciling him into the 2020 roster?

Agreed with this. The brigman utility role penciled in is way too early. Also, i'd consider Rojas for a small extension if he's willing to take a paycut from what he'd get in abitration next year to get more guaranteed money for a year or 2 after. Which he might do cause there is a decent chance we non tender him.

                          • The "Rojas" spot should be ideally filled by Riddle when they sign Didi next offseason to a 4 year deal for his age 30-33 seasons. It's not Xander, but Didi is really good and will be cheaper. Here's to a full recovery, looking good in September, and doing the Jayson Werth contract for his age 30-33 seasons.

That would be a nice middle infield depth chart if Riddle's defense holds up and he can OPS .700 with a positive RHP split and Diaz is "as advertised" as a probable 2 WAR slugging 2B who will whiff a lot.

                            • No thank you to Didi. If we're gonna sign a bat i'd rather it be someone else. Regardless of all of the current guys in the system, its clear our lineup and hitting prospects are the area this team needs to really target in the next 2 drafts and free agencies. With the quality and depth of SP in our system developing nicely, a few smart free agent signings and a good 2 drafts where we will have high picks could be huge.

                              - - - - - - - - - -

Id see if we can get Witt or one of the catchers in the draft and then target Ozuna and Abreu as short term deals to take advantage of all the guys on team control.

                              - - - - - - - - - -

Just to actually write it out. Say we sign Ozuna to a 3-4 year deal for 55-75 million and Abreu to a 1 year 5-10 million or 2 year 10-15 million deal. Those are just numbers off the top of my head but that seems about right given the free agent market the last few years. If you get Abreu for the 2 year deal, then your team in 2021 is looking like

                              C- Alfaro
                              1b- Abreu
                              2b- Diaz
                              SS- ? Witt Jr?
                              3b- Anderson
                              LF- Ozuna
                              CF- Brinson?
                              RF- Harrison/ VVM/ Scott/ another free agent

SP- Sixto/Alcantara/Lopez/Gallen/Richards/Yamamoto/Smith/Urena still under control/Guzman/Rogers/Garrett/Holloway/Stewart/Cabrera/ anyone else im missing.

Ideally we could have been able to get a legitimate star in free agency in the upcoming years, but those top tier guys dont seem to be getting to free agency as much. Because of that, I could see smart signings like this to take advantage of the team salary control of these young players that could really help us take another step or 2 as these guys develop.

Not sure what you think is coming in free agency or why a 29 year old Ozuna is looking for a short term deal, but here are the next two years and I've bolded the only guys who make sense IMO for a long term deal based on Marlins personnel and general market conditions. Sign Abreu for 1-2 years? Sure. Who cares.

Rendon is the premier bat free agent and isn't coming.
Cole is the premier SP free agent and isn't coming.
Mookie is the next premier bat free agent and isn't coming.
The 2021 SP make sense if they are healthy and have been performing as they should. You can see one of them being signed to a multi year deal even if they have SP depth.

So we have Didi, and the Marlins have Jack and Shit organizationally at SS. A 2019 1st round pick in high school isn't ready until 2023 best case scenario. Projecting a high school Witt to the MLB squad in 1+ year is a bit much unless he is a prodigy.

Literally looking at Didi being the best FA for the Marlins (4+ WAR last 2 years) at a position of need. Brinson may stink today, but Brinson, Monte, VVM, and the viability of 1 year corner OF types don't create a sudden urge to sign Ozuna (2.7 WAR last year, projected under 3 this year), Castellanos (projected 2 WAR), pray Puig has matured and isn't just playing this year for the contract, etc.

They should sign Didi in 2020 at this point, aim for a SP in 2021, pray they have SP depth to trade and pull a reverse-Yelich style trade for another bat, fill in all the gaps moving Castro, Steckenrider, Conley, Walker, Rojas, Urena, etc., and if needed, offer 1-2 year deals to 1B/LF types.

Then, maybe you have a chance in 2021.
