Hold on if this is true (from today's MLBTR about Josh Donaldson preseason offer from SL): Indeed, per the report, the Cards offered up a two-player package that included young righty Jack Flaherty — the same hurler who might well be cruising to a National League Rookie-of-the-Year award were it not for the brilliance of two historic young hitters.
If that's true, the Cards were willing to give up a tip top prospect for the right to pay Donaldson $23M for a single year. Therefore, how the hell did we not get Flaherty for Ozuna, who had two years of control at less than half the salary? Flaherty would have been the ace we are looking for.Last edited by Lee Stone; 09-15-2018, 01:06 PM.

Reason why St Louis was willing to pay MORE(Flaherty) for Stanton than Ozuna was because Stanton was signed long term and we were sending lots of cash-Ozuna is FA soon which is why Flaherty was NOT in that deal
If Stanton didn't have NO trade it would have been
Stanton-St Louis
Ozuna-Toronto or Milwaukee
Yelich-Milwaukee or ?
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Goold reports that the Cards have made a “compelling” offer for Giancarlo Stanton and have discussed right-handers Sandy Alcantara and Jack Flaherty in various trade scenarios with the Marlins. (Notably, Goold does not specify whether either Alcantara or Flaherty is in the Cardinals’ final offer.) The Cardinals, he adds, are also willing to take on more of the contract than other teams.Last edited by tjfla; 09-16-2018, 09:29 AM.

This is what confuses me about players. Chris O'Grady has been out since May yet this is a tweet from 9/15

10 days after surgery and feeling a lot better already. Going be a long road to recovery. But, I’ve done it once before and I’ll do it again. Still have a lot of pitches left to throw…
So 4 months AFTER everyone else knew he need surgery he finally gets it?

In draft news
#2 KC 52-96
#3 Miami 57-91
#4/#5 Both at 59 Wins
KC keeps winning we could get to #2 but more likely #3 pick in draft/Rule 5 and #1 in NL Waivers
Miami COULD have #3/#34/#42.

He's out of options which is an issue, but I agree to the extent of I don't mind protecting him on the 40 man and figuring it out in Spring Training.

The Ortega love feels like a distant memory. His impeccable plate approach has translated to a .286 OBP.

also, it's not like there are a lot of great options for leadoff man on the team. When you only have 1 good hitter in the entire lineup, it's tough.
