Yup. Huge mistake. I dont think they had the offers at the deadline though, i think the mistake was not selling high in june.

    • Ya they tried to be cute and get teams to overpay for our guys. It did NOT work out however the RP arms are just tired. Mattingly runs the same 3 guys out every day and they can't handle it

Positive is all of the guys can get their value back up easily

Which makes one wonder. Why is Ben Meyer on the 25-man if he's never going to pitch?

Same reason Brett Graves is on the roster (except for the rule 5 part)- he's not very good and we need bodies to fill out the 25 man roster.

Same reason Graves and Guerra are on the 25 man. U need someone to pitch just in case.

Others on 40 man are Del Pozo/Merandy/Peters/Needy(?)

No clue why Wittgren hasnt been called up but the rest of them arent much better. This is one problem with a "rebuilding" team. The last 3 or 4 guys on a roster usually suck(Rivera/Guerra/Galloway) but teams would rather keep them up then call up someone better to just sit on the bench and go no Ab's

            - - - - - - - - - -

Not really concerned with the roster till after NEXT season really. Next year will be the same as this year-find guys who could stick for when the team is good. We will likely take 1 or 2 guys in the Rule 5,1 or 2 vets and keep looking for talent

2020 is when to start looking at everything

Keep tanking this year and get #3 Pick and #1 NL Waiver Claim spot. 3 of Top 40 Picks(LOTS of Draft Pool $ to play with)#3 Pick in Rule 5 and#1 Waiver Claim for NL could help us keep adding talent

On Wittgren: Have you seen his numbers at NO? 5.58 ERA, .300 BAA and 1.50 WHIP. A call-up is not in the cards.

On Guerra: I'm not so sure he's a just in case. He seems to be used more than anyone.

Wittgren has a 4.12 FIP and a 3.73 XFIP in Nola. He's getting PCL'ed to death. He deserves to be on the roster.

Guerra sucks. Him, Graves, and Yadiel Rivera are wastes of space on the roster. I at least get Graves as a rule 5 guy who they want to just keep in a lost year, but Guerra over wittgren makes no sense.

Vs. the same PCL competition Wittgren faced, Guerra's numbers were stellar. He's just been ineffective for Miami, like all the rest of the pen.

                  • It's been a rough year for Wittgren. He started the year coming off surgery, went back on the DL, then optioned to AAA. I still think he's very much a MLB reliever. Hopefully after a fully healthy off-season, he'll be back on track next year.

It'll be interesting to see if they can find a taker for Dietrich and/or Castro today. Both guys can help a contender. I actually wouldn't mind holding on to either for next season (we will need to even more bats if they are gone), but I'm also certainly not opposed to trading them. Hopefully if they are dealt, we can add more international money for a run at Mesa.

I'm not feeling a market for either, certainly not for Castro's contract. DD could be a platooner at DH for an American League team I suppose, but I wouldn't shed a tear if he were waived outright.

Throw him away for nothing? Why? You're acting as if he's an unproductive player that doesn't contribute anything. We've seen how well that's worked out in the past for us giving away people for nothing.

Yeah, I'm not giving him away. This team currently has no other 1B option next year and they could do much worse than DD. If they can get a prospect and some IFA money, fine, but he has value here as well.

If the Marlins can get something for Dietrich, fine. I don't think he's part of the plan moving forward.

He's not but the only guys u give away are ones who have a crazy contract or are FA.

Right. Just because he won't be around when the team is good again, doesn't mean they should give him away. They still have to field a team next year, and there are far worse guys they could give 500 ABs to than DD. He has value and they need to get something of value back for him if they move him.
